Title: 1571 message waiting indicator
Post by: boost on November 09, 2014, 03:25:21 PM
Does anyone know how this works? :)

I hear a stuttered dial tone but the red light no longer flashes on my grandparents handset. I wonder if I caused the problem by trying to tweak resurrect the broadband when it went kaput? :D

You need to listen to the messgaes and delete them the dial tone will then become constant.

Sorry.

What I meant is, the MWI indicator on the telephone no longer flashes, despite the alternating/stutter tone being audible when you lift the receiver...

I seem to recall that some EU's 'Caller Displays' were polarity conscious. Upon migrating to ADSL from PSTN, the reversal of the polarity caused by the subsequent Exchange 'Jumpering' (Running of wires), a few CD's stopped working until the wiring was swopped around.

If you have been 'messing' with the wiring, this may be the issue ??

PS ..... for info ...... what you can hear upon receipt of a 1571 message is officially called 'Broken Dial Tone'.  :)

Fabulous! Thanks :D

I knew I was to blame somehow, I just wasn't sure where to look :D

(background: old socket was green (with envy?) and couldn't risk a contractor stinging them for a customer domain issue, despite them having no master socket to speak of and two ingress points demarc'd with LJUs?! Proper confusing. Needs someone like your good self to have a squint tbh but will swap ring and tip next time I'm there :) )

I'm Welsh :)

I've seen the terminology banded about several times in various documents and it was only recently I finally understood wtf it was on about.
Unfortunately, I now look a bit of a cock because it doesn't even apply over here! :P

Thankfully, I have people like your good self willing to correct me.

Much appreciated :D

Ring, tip and sleeve were in common use in broadcasting for describing jack plugs and jack sockets on patch panels when I worked on TV transmitters. Don't know about now.
