Kitz - What chipset is BT Openreach Modem using?
-
The Huawei HG612 uses a BCM
-
I would only get a 3rd party modem/router combo if either a broadcom or ECI chipset (note ECI dont make chipsets, I just forgot name they use). Even if is one of those chipsets it can still perform unpredictably. I still recommend to people to keep the openreach modem and use a separate router.
-
adslmax has a Huawei HG612 which uses the BCM 6368 chipset.
The ECI modems contain Lantiq VRX-268 which is the same chipset as in the TP-Link TD-W8980/TD-W9980.
Theres a list on the wiki of which routers use what Broadcom chipsets (http://wiki.kitz.co.uk/index.php/BCM_routers). The BCM 6368 seem to perform pretty well but the new BCM 63168 (http://www.broadcom.com/products/Broadband-Carrier-Access/xDSL-CPE-Solutions/BCM63168) seem to have the edge.
A couple of the guys on this forum have attempted to take the adsl_phy from the BCM 63168 to put into the HG612 firmware, but unfortunately attempts were unsuccessful. Someone did manage to do this with another router (cant recall now off the top of my head but its in the forum somewhere) and got another 10Mb sync.

Correct there. I am going to stick with openreach modem with third party wifi router. Because after 38 days with openreach modem the crc errors is only 916 over 38 days. Pretty good broadcom BCM 6368 for my shortern distance from my house to Huawei FTTC cabinet (288)
-
@ejs - thanks for the additional info :)
Pretty good broadcom BCM 6368
Which is why a week or so ago I first suggested perhaps if you were going for a combined unit you should perhaps look at the routers with another BCM chipset. The BCM6368's are pretty good, but the BCM 63168 is newer and slightly better. :)

Problem is not many VDSL modem have that at present! Only the ZyXEL VMG8324-10A got that - very hard to get hold of this hardware! I want to buy it but nothing in ebay, amazon, uk shopping lists.
I was wondering if this new ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A (part number: VMG1312-B10A-UK01V1F) have the same chipset BCM 63168?

The Billion 8800NL has the BCM 63168 as well.

The Billion 8800NL has the BCM 63168 as well.
Where the proof is this? Are u sure?
-
!00% Sure. Read though the 8800NL thread you will output confirming that. You can also tell from the xdsl driver version letters.

Thanks just ordered Billion 8800NL ;)

Ive not seen that for sale in the UK before.. Ive had a very quick look at the specs, which would appear to be less than the VMG8324-10A. Aside from some of the hardware aspects such as VOIP it doesnt say anything about Vectoring and I get the impression that this may be an older model as it seems to have been around a bit longer and is a bit cheaper... although I really havent had time to look too hard.
It does appear to have the BCM63168 chipset though, and the web gui appears to be similar to the VMG8324-B10A when it comes to information available about the line.. so it should in theory work with DSLstats and HG612 modemstats.

As an aside I posted that stuffUK (which is where a few on here got it from) got a new delivery of 36 yesterday.
Thanks just ordered Billion 8800NL
Youve seen the thread.. they seem to be very well received and I hope that youre happy with it :)
