Title: R7000, Enable or Disable wireless WMM?
Post by: Geekofbroadband on August 30, 2014, 03:47:26 PM
Should I disable WMM? It was on from default but I noticed My Xbox 360 (Wireless N) and iPad (Wireless N 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz) are very sow sometimes, could this be the WMM because I have seen its not very good for some people. And also I know the non overalpping channels for 2.4Ghz are 1,6,11 but what about the 5Ghz channels all I have on my router are 36,40,44,46 are they all non overlaping thanks

Apparently disabling WMM may also disable Wireless N speeds. See http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-features/30938-dont-mess-with-wmm

For the 5GHz channels,
channel 36 = 5180 MHz
channel 40 = 5200 MHz
channel 44 = 5220 MHz

So channels 36 and 40 don't overlap for using 20MHz of bandwidth, but both channels 36 and 40 would be used for 40MHz of bandwidth.

It's odd, some routers only allow channel 36 on the 5GHz band. Some allow the three listed above.
