No 2 daughter's young man's mother (clear? :'() no longer has room for her home constructed (probably by No 2 Daughter's young man) desktop PC. Specs as below:
Intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz E6600 processor
> 4gb corsair ram
> Asus commando atx motherboard lga 775 socket.
> Corsair power supply hx650 80 plus modular atx.
> Nvidia fx 5200 gfx card (passive I think)
> Same case as you already have but scratched on one side (Antec Sonata).
> No hard disk or operating system.

I am somewhat out of touch with newer hardware and would appreciate help on the following.
Is it a significant improvement on my existing PC which has:
Connect 3D radeon 9550
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+
2x Samsung Spinpoint 250Mb HDDs
ASUS K8N-E DeLuxe Motherboard
2 Gig RAM (beleived to be Corsair ValueRAM
And the other bits and pieces to make it all work
The HDDs would be transferred, a little slow but dead silent.
Is the Intel processor upgradeable on the existing motherboard?
Does anybody want, or can suggest what to do with the old one?
I would expect to receive all relevant paperwork plus free (excepting provision of a meal) delivery from Bexleyheath to Swalecliffe.

Well it is not bad but not really modern either. I'd probably take it and use the Radeon card in it as I prefer ATI cards to Nvidia. I'd guess it might be a tad faster because of the Core 2 Duo and 4GB ram. HDDs are HDDs, main thing is does it have enough connectors of the correct type (SATA or PATA) for your HDDs and DVD drive?

Been lurking round the interwebby thingy & found that this MB has 6 SATA 2 connectors and supports up to 8Mb of RAM. Even as we speak I am endevouring to get a price for 2Mb DDR2 800Mhz modules with varying degrees of success.
Update
I have just looked at a number of sites concerning the Mb and am inclined to resist their kind offer. I would rather spend some money & get a new PC,
Thanks for looking.
