Title: Capped Line
Post by: jkelman on May 22, 2014, 01:25:44 PM
Hi,
I was wondering if the router stats below indicate a capped line?

As far as I'm aware my target SNR Margin is 6dB but immediately after any re-syncs 3776 Kbps is the max sync rate I can achieve, with, as you can see, a noise margin of 6.8dB.

The line is stable and I can hold sync for a couple of weeks- the short connection time below is due to swapping ISP from BT to Plusnet today.

I realise that with such a relatively high attenuation this isn't bad but those extra few Kbps may be enough to push my IP profile up to the next banding...

Any help appreciated!

Hello jk and welcome to the Kitz forum.

From your description it does look as if you have a capped line.

I note that your modem/router is configured to use G.992.1 Annex A mode, which is just another way of saying G.Dmt. It may prove worthwhile to investigate usage of G.992.3 AnnexA mode, a.k.a. ADSL2 (not 2+).

Thanks for that- I have no idea why my line should be capped on an up to 8Mbps service- perhaps something to do with line issues/frequent disconnections a while ago?
Is ADSL 2 something  Plusnet may be able to help me with- my exchange has no date for 21CN provision...

Ah, a 20CN not 21CN equipped exchange. Then that explains it. You are limited to using G.992.1 (G.Dmt), which is up to 8 Mbps DS only.

Sorry for an confusion I may have caused.  :-[

If it is capped, but if the line is stable for a while, Plusnet may agree to reset the line for you.

Cheers for that.
I'm currently in the 10 day training period (although I've seen no fluctuations) so I'll wait and see what happens after that.

Just be aware that a like-for-like migration doesnt always trigger a new training period.
