I've just bitten the bullet and bought a new PC, running Windows 8, while I'm pleasantly surprised that is not as difficult as I had expected I just cannot find out how to import my email address book from my old PC running WinXP.
I'm using Team Viewer to move files I need to keep but cannot seem to find a way to import to new pc or export from the old one.
Can anyone help please, bearing in mind my IT skills are limited.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Windows easy transfer would have simplified transferring from XP to windows 8, see here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/transfer-data-from-old-computer-to-windows-8/.
Easiest way to just import your contacts to live mail from Outlook express is as follows.
- From the menu in Windows Live Mail, Select Go -> Contacts
- You may have to hold down Alt to see the menu bar.
- To import Outlook Express contacts from a different computer or old Windows installation
- Copy the desired *.wab file from the computer or installation (old computer) to the computer running Windows Live Mail (new computer).
- From the menu in Windows Live Mail, Select File -> Import -> Windows address book (.WAB)
- If you want to import contacts from Outlook Express alongside Windows Live Mail
- Select File -> Import -> Address book for current Windows user from the menu in Windows Live Mail.
- Click OK.
The location of the *.wab file is be default found here
C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\user_name.wab
Please note user_name will not be displayed it will be replaced be the name of the user account you have logged
on with.
hope that helps

Thank you Berrick, if I can stop sneezing and coughing long enough I'll do that.
Apologies for the delay in answering.

In Win XP Outlook Express my email address book was broken down in groups such as;
Family
Friends
Home Watch
and so on, is it possible to do something like this with W8 contacts?

Well I've got the mail category's set up pretty much as I wanted, however nothing runs smoothly.
According to Win 8 for Dummies to mail to a group all I need to do is right click a group select 'mail' and type my message, but, ( there's always a 'But'!) The Mail option is greyed out and I don't know how to activate it, can anyone help please?

Hi Peter,
I don't use live mail but I'm sure I recall others having this problem the solution they came up with was to select all (ctl + A) the members of a group then do a right mouse click and select send mail?
Give it a try and report back.

Top notch Berrick, that worked good, no option to send it bcc but I can cut and paste it from the 'To' bar.
Many thanks.
