Excellent news.  Competitive pricing too, which should make Zen more attractive to the home users who want a bit more from their ISP :)

Quick question..  thats not clear from your post, have these new accounts also replaced the Fibre Office and Fibre Office+?
If so I will remove

Just looked at your link Kitz.

Do you know what "lo-call" means in relation to 084 numbers?

My guess is you do not. But if you do please  provide a BT reference to the call costs.

Normally you are very acurate in what you post but in this case I think you have fallen into the speel trap.

0845 058 9000 = 01706 902000

Accordingly, numbers in the 0845 range are known as "Lo-Call' rate and the term refers to the local rate tariff charged by the operator on whose network the call is made.

Accordingly, numbers in the 0845 range are known as "Lo-Call' rate and the term refers to the local rate tariff charged by the operator on whose network the call is made. Similarly numbers in the 0870 range are known as "national" rate.

There is no local rate tariff and has not been for years. Only geographic rates and priemium rates.

Competition in telecoms markets means that different operators offer differing rates for making calls, including local rate or national rate calls, although it is Oftel's intention that operators should not charge more for a 0845 Lo-Call/0870 national rate call than for a geographic local or national rate call. This happens for calls made from a BT line, as the revenue that BT is allowed to retain from the call is fixed. However, other operators, are not subject to such charge controls, and have not in some cases aligned geographic and non-geographic tariffs, which can result in consumers being confused over tariff levels.

Total rubbish.

How old is the FAQ?

Could that be the date it was created?

The database was propogated with the ISP phone numbers circa 2007. Back then there was a lot of confusion with 0845/0844 numbers.  0845 being the cheaper option in that callers could phone national numbers for the same price as a local call.

With so many ISPs using different 08 type numbers I inserted lo-call next to 0845 to show they werent premium rate.

If you click on the link for 'cost' it does show the BT pricing.

Unfortunately this is now historic..  and most (non-mobile) Telco's lump 0845 numbers in the same as geographic and also include 0845 as free if you have a calling plan.

Admittedly the link doesnt show the very latest BT call costs because I havent updated that..  but it does give the link back to the latest BT call costs.

I guess a total re-design of the database will be required if theres a problem displaying lo-call & I'll take it out if it causes confusion.

It will however be low down on the list Im afraid as Im really struggling like mad atm to keep on top of everything else and sort out a server move :(

The alternative atm is taking the whole lot down.

I am not having a go at you Kitz, it just shows you how out of date Ofcom are.

I believe and always been told, our 0845 number should be charged at what you Telco provider calls a local rate. I have heard some people complain their Telco charged them premium rate and hence we released the 01706902**** numbers.

As for you my little Kitty Kat from hell ( >:D) the new plans replace ALL of the Old Office packages. In fact they replace all the Fibre packages. 3 Plans to rule them all.

. . . it just shows you how out of date Ofcom are.

Look closely that the quotation you inserted above and you will see reference to Oftel and not to Ofcom. That will help to date it.  ;)

I can see a lot of people going for this, as they are offering static IP and not being extra unlike the majority.

I'm only playing Dick Advocaat here, but is Static IP as opposed to Dynamic IP such a big deal-breaker to the average, unawares punter ?? I speak to a helluva lot of EU's, and I'd openly say that probably 95% of them won't even know what it is.

Don't get me wrong, I like Zen. On the very few occasions I've to co-op with their tech guys on a fault, they've been helpful and knowledgeable. A big plus in my book, rather than have to go through the in's and out's of a gnats fart like you do with some ISP's 'Tech people'. Plus, they are a local business to me, living where I do, so I wish them all the best on that level too.

£17 Line rental... :o   >:(

Is it compulsory to take line rental or can you take broadband on its own.

In the age of mobile telephones most people get inclusive minutes with their phone packages and very rarely use landlines, yet they are still made to have a landline in order to get broadband.. >:(

Just put my details into the Zen checker.... :-X

Postcode: xxxxx
Estimated speed range *: Between 1.5 Mbps and 4.5 Mbps

I would have to pay £18.37 a month for that...... :-X

Out of interest I just entered my phone number but it says it cannot find it, and the post code does not give fibre info on adsl speeds. I know I can get fibre but again I do have a landline with TT currently and have unlimited UK landline calls 7 days a week with my current contract. I could add fibre to this for about a tenner a month which comes in cheaper than Zen without the same calls deal, add calls to the Zen prices and it is quite a bit more expensive. The only axtra is a static IP which is nice but I manage without.
