Title: Windows 8.1
Post by: ColinS on August 21, 2013, 10:13:09 PM
"at 12:00am on October 18th in New Zealand (that’s 4:00am October 17th in Redmond), Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 will begin rolling out worldwide as a free update for consumers with Windows 8 or Windows RT devices through the Windows Store. Windows 8.1 will also be available at retail and on new devices starting on October 18th by market."

 :(

Would have been so much easier via update.   Now I guess I'm going to have to get people to sign up to windows store to download and install..... and I know of at least one person that I,ll have to do that for. :/

Wonder if you can do one download to say USB that could be used on several machines.  Haven't checked the blurb.

CBA as they say.  Nothing in it that I'm desperate for, nor my customers.
(They will either live with 8.0 as is, or use Classic Shell)

Nice idea, but I'll bet you can't; they want you to sign up for the shop.  :-X

No, the new 'fun' way of doing it is for free via the store.  Who needs the old 'boring' Windows update?  ;)

even stranger if you purchased a copy of Windows 8 online from windows and installed it and then downloaded and installed the 8.1 preview and you want to install Win 8.1 (public release) you have to use the Windows Store to update from the preview if you don't your Win 8 licence key will not won't work and you have to install the programs again.

So the next time I will not be going down that silly preview stage during OS trials if they are going do that again.

Absolutely NOT.  >:D
Only corporate volume licensing (Select Agreement) users will have such facilities. For everyone else it's download 3GB to 4GB per PC.

As for "Previews" I have to install them for business reasons, but NEVER EVER do it on a "live" system, only a dedicated test system.

Thinking of a few people I know with Win 8 machines on Sky Lite.
