Title: Openreach checking wooden poles in my area
Post by: HPsauce on June 04, 2013, 11:11:16 AM
Not sure if this is the right section, but it was the most appropriate I could see. Feel free to move.

Earlier today I noticed an OR van further up my road. Later it parked next to the pole opposite my house, that my line runs from (overhead).
The guy sat in his van doing not a lot, clearly waiting for an "appointment".

That actually, I infer, is a set time to get out and inspect the pole. Which he duly did at a notable time.
Various mats, spades and other equipment appeared and he began digging. Later I noticed him tapping the pole and later still affixing some labels, presumably to denote it has been inspected, the date and condition.
As I write this he's sitting in the van again in "appointment" mode. The next one isn't far.  ;)

From the number of poles on my road, and his rate of progress, I'd guess he's allocated an hour for each. Ours took about 25 minutes in all including unpacking equipment and putting it back.

A number of FTTC cabinets have appeared nearby in recent weeks. Could this be related or just normal checks on condition?

Something similar happened here a while ago. See this thread (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,11804.msg225646.html#msg225646).
