Title: QupZilla - another new browser
Post by: roseway on December 06, 2012, 10:54:02 AM
This new browser is based on Webkit (the same as in Google Chrome and Safari). It's available for Linux and Windows (and some other OSs, but not Mac). I'm using it experimentally at the moment, and it certainly seems very snappy, and hasn't so far given any problems. You might like to give it a go.

Thank you, Eric.

I have downloaded the 64-bit other Linux tarball and will try to find the time to 'give it a go'.  :)

My opinion at this stage is that QupZilla is very promising but not quite ready for prime time. It's certainly fast, and I haven't experienced any significant rendering problems, but the issue which has made me put it aside for the moment is that I can't organise bookmarks in the way I want because the editing capability is very limited. The other small oddity is that a pointless scrollbar appears to the left of some forum messages when avatars are displayed - unimportant but slightly distracting.

I'll give some feedback to the developers, and I'll keep an eye on its progress, but for the moment I'll be sticking with Firefox.

As I use an 'enterprise' class of OS (distributed with a Linux kernel), I discovered that QupZilla requires a shared library newer (by version number) than is available in RHEL 6u3. Hence I have been unable to test it.

That's a pity. :)
