I still have W7 running on my new laptop and I have VLC installed whch I want to use as my default player. I have set all the associations correctly and set it as default in the control panel. Now the real hassle is that when I open the network and see my MediaTomb server as a network device I want to double click on it and see it open VLC but W7 will only open Windows Media Player. I have been unable to find any way to change this behaviour and it's driving me mad. Any vieo or picture file I click on opens in VLC but stubbornly W7 insist on opening Windows Media Player when I double click on the MediaTomb device on the network.
Can anyone suggest how I resolve this?

PS. Yes I could install Linux on the lappy but she who must be obeyed will get upset

Is it possible to remove the BGW Media Player? Then, if it does not exist, it cannot be started! :-\

I had certainly thought about this but I'd rather try to sort it by a setting if possible. :(

Thanks Kitz, sadly that does not help. If I open VLC and navigate to the Upnp device running Mediatomb it works fine and plays the videos. What I wanted to do was to be able to open the file browser and select Network which displays a whole load of Network devices including my MediaTomb device and double click on it and have W7 open VLC, sadly whatever I do it opens Windows Media Player which refuses to play the video files for some strange reason (which might be a missing setup in MediaTomb for that file type). However I prefer VLC (being a Linux man at heart).

Sadly no I've been trough all that and if I open a media file directly it opens VLC just fine. It's only when I double click on the Media Server device in the Network that it insists on opening WMP!
