So i have a new sky install on the 15th on August and was wondering what work will the engineer have to do ?
Coming from a BB support background i have fair idea and i have search google of other installs but no better place to ask than Kitz
I know they have to change the socket however the flat in live in doesn't have an NTE5, the sockets i have (two) look like the LJU type of sockets so will this be replaced by the BT engineer ? Any drilling in involved also as that's a no no by the landlord.

Im afraid I cant really tell you much, as FTTC is no-where near here atm, but Im sure there will be others who have been there and done it who will be along shortly to share their experiences.

Thanks mate awaiting their replies i did BB broadband support for 3 years i always refer customers to this site when they have issues beyond our control, but now am a Cisco geek i forgot all my BB knowledge.

A FTTC installation requires a SSFP to be fitted to the NTE5/A and if there is currently no such NTP at the premises, one would be fitted.
Could you unscrew each of the two telephone sockets, photograph the rear of them both and attach the images to a message to this thread, please?
Depending upon the current situation, the installing engineer may be able to directly replace one of the existing sockets with an NTE5/A. Are the existing sockets flush mounted into recessed backing boxes? Or are they surface mounted?

As B*Cat alludes to, it all depends on the installation you have at present, as to how the FTTC transpires ??
Whatever state your installation is at present, you will be left with a new NTE5 back-plate, a VDSL intermediate plate, and a NTE5 frontplate, all of which form one chunky looking Master Socket.
As engineers, our brief is to install the white modem (Huawei or ECI, dependant on the vendor in your area), against a wall by fitting 2 plug and screws. This may mean a minimum of drilling. If you (or your landlord) are insistent no holes are to be drilled, then I personally would inform you of how they need a good airflow around them, and mention this in the note to cover myself should the modem overheat.
All-in-all, if you have just one telephone socket in the premises, and you wish the new VDSL modem and Hub to be sited next to it, then the actual 'installation' shouldn't take much more than an hour. That's the Cab work, and testing and demo'ing all in, as well as the socket change.
Two things you will need for the engineer though are 1) An extra 240v power outlet for the additional modem. 2) A kettle, some coffee and a tray of biscuits.
The actual VDSL speed you will receive, is dependant on the outcome of 2). ;) ;D ;D

After checking the sockets again ...they are not surface mounted and i located the main master socket and actually was able to improve my current speed to 16mg from 12meg by removing the ring wire which i never bothered to do in the past now am thinking of not switching LOL LOL
I also changed the socket to an NTE5a will post some pics soon...
I have ordered some sticky pads so if needs be stick it to the wall

I hope it has the Openreach logo (or, at least, that of Beatie) on it. :-X
From looking at your photos, I would have thought that the NTE5/A back-plate would fit into the recessed backing box. Failing that, you should be able to fit the surface mount box over the aperture by using the screws that held the original MK socket into the recessed box. No wall-drilling required. ;)

Nah it doesn't am just gonna stick it on with sticky pads or blue tack...
No socket has or ever had BT logo on them...more than likely these weren't installed by BT in the first instance

Did make me chuckle this one........as BS says, yours seems a relatively easy install compared to some. Drilling will me the absolute minimum for mounting the modem to the wall.......(2x8mm).

and Don't forget 4 inchs apart and 2 wall grubs for a nice finish :D

There isn't. And "yes". ;)
The Openreach supplied VDSL2 modem is fitted to the wall adjacent to the NTE5/A. The black, rectangular box on the floor is some other "doings". ::)

Yea cab is at the en of my road so not that far yea speakers are brillant they are connected to my AC ryan media streamer..

most my devices are on the floor 1800series router/877tplink routers cisco switches , never had any issues with over heating unless the vents are blocked...
