Hi
I was going to go on ebay and purchase a HG612 and use this one as the unlocked one but I just went ahead and all is working fine, I can see router stats but don't understand how to use HG612 modem stats/ gnuplot and the rest of this stuff I downloaded and uncompressed into a folder
Is there an easyer program I can use that also has Router graphs ?
Cheers

Have you double-clicked Start.BAT that should be in the folder where everything was unzipped to?
That should set everything up apart from starting the 24/7 logging that has to be set up for each Windows system.
The instructions aren't really necessary until starting Task Scheduler via START_LOGGING_24-7.BAT & even then it should be self-explanatory.
Once set up double-click TestStats2.BAT for current stats graphs & assuming 24/7 logging has started, double-click graphpd.BAT for the graphs.
You can just run TestStats.BAT on its own, but the 24/7 logging tells us a lot more about general & ongoing conditions.
There aren't really any other programs out there for FTTC/VDSL2 connections yet.
Any specific queries, just ask here.

I ran the Start.BAT and looked into that folder it has loads of stuff in there my question is what .exe file should I click on to show the graphs & stuff PS I am using Vista SP2
I am getting the stuff ok but can't seem to get the GUI with graphs Teststats2.BAT works fine
-
Once set up double-click TestStats2.BAT (in the Scripts folder) for current stats graphs.
Any .exe files should be in the Apps folder which you don't need to even look at.
-
Did the script teststats2 and it works it says producing graphs for VDSL2 profile 17a so where do I access them ?
-
Also did the start logging 24/7 it ask me for the run password which I don't have one I am the administrator silly program
ok I did not have to use user name or password just hit enter then hit 1 for vista
cheers but no GUI of Graphs yet :(

It's ok getting them from current stats folders , You Guys really want us to DIY :P ;D

VDSL2 Stats from HG612
(http://)

Part of that is chopped off as the font size is different for Vista.
A bit more DIY for you now then:-
Open GRAPH6.BAT with a text editor.
Near the top you will see something like this:-
rem ***** Set the font & size for different Windows versions *****
rem ***** Windows 7 *****
set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 14
rem ***** Vista *****
rem set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 12
rem ***** XP *****
rem set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 14
Change it to this :-
rem ***** Windows 7 *****
rem set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 14
rem ***** Vista *****
set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 12
rem ***** XP *****
rem set FONT_USED=courier-new -pointsize 14
Save the edited file & job done.
It would be nice to see the portrait montage of your stats posted here.
-
I have the portrait montage but its 246kb PNG file the forum won't accept this as an Image :D
-
Ah,
I forgot about that.
The updated script, still to be released yet outputs a smaller portrait montage & looks "prettier".
I have attached a copy of the new script (if you wanted to try it out).

Ok cheers Bald_Eagle1

There is alot of stats in there alot more than my 2640B on ADSL Max it will take me
days to work all this out , I bet Nasa would tell me the faults in minutes ;D
BE was right this is a good forum for BroadBand Technical Support ;)

Does anyone know the reason why BTOR locked down the firmware for the HG612 in the first place
it seems silly ! imagine going to a store to buy a router and finding out when you got home it was locked :o

Presumably because BT don't want customers to have access to detailed information which could be used against them.

I'd hazard a guess one reason is preventing users changing things so BT know exactly the configuration of each modem they hand out on each line - and the modems are matched pairs to the DSLAM's type fitted in the particular fibre cabinet that feeds your property.
They would want the unit to be regarded as a "black box" that simply works and you don't need to bother about it and how it works/what it is doing - in much the same way that your car's ECU just works and I've never had any access into it or cared that I did not.
Most people are simply not bothered, indeed most people are not interested in any of the details about broadband whatsoever and anyway have no ability to understand them. Actually round here no one is even bothered whether fibre arrives or not - I know I've conducted surveys round the village and no one is really interested despite all the hype in the press about FTTC broadband being "essential".
It is a very small minority of the UK BB users on ADSL/FTTC who want access to the modem's stats.

I was thinking it was to give The BTOR guys more work, You call BT and say my computer won't connect to internet they come round replace the HG612 and your hit with a £25 fee.
Can BTOR peek into your router and check to see if you have made changes to the HG612 ?
or am I being paranoide.
As for me any Black Box that comes into my house will be dissected and analysed I loved to see how they tick.
