As the thread says, new here, but not new to telecoms/broadband. I am an Openreach engineer, skills are NGA installs, CAL OMI, bb boost, NGA boost, frames technician, as well as 3G trained. Hopefully i can contribute as and when needed.

^-^ again, OD.  :)

I've finally reached this thread (having started reading at the oldest unread one). Thanks for letting us know of your skills. You will clearly augment the knowledge base and will hopefully complement the input of our other "tame" Openreach employee, Black Sheep.  ;D

Ha ha, like the 'Top Gear' reference B*Cat. OR engineers have a wealth of differing knowledge and it's always good to have another slant on a problem. Welcome OR Dude, your initial findings are correct, it is a great, friendly site with a far greater knowledge base on here, than any other similar forum. Take it from me, as I've frequented a few over the years.

You'll sometimes think you've stumbled into a science lab, when Asbo, Bald Eagle, B*Cat, rizla et al, start talking about an isotope they've discovered in the latest Netgear router, that when coupled with a reverse-polarity zener diode will open up a gateway to quantum leap various time zones. I buzz of their knowledge, just dont understand any of it. ;D

Enjoy bud. :)

Hello mate,

What area do you cover?  Im scotland and we have just went live with new model works manager which is the worst idea ever lol spending more time driving and less time on jobs.   I have never filled up the van with diesel so much lol.  Hope your not affected by this.  Oh and are you a jdsu or exfo man?

Cheers.

Ye gods, so WM is still extant.  ::)

I remember its introduction in the West Midlands in the late 90s on mobile transmission. Well, I say mobile, but in fact we all became mobile as no exchanges or repeater stations were manned once WM came in..

What a brilliant idea - being directed by a badly programmed computer, and no one responsible for anything. I took the money and ran while the opportunity was there.

Welcome OR dude.  ^-^

Oh yes, the white elephant that is 'Works Manager' is still here causing havoc and mayhem !!!

From my failing memory, I think it came into being in the early 90's when we had the hand- held 'Husky' units for picking up work. Again from memory, I believe the figure it cost to introduce the system was in the mid- twenties (Millions£), which is minuscule compared to what it has cost since to manually manipulate the system, due to its incredible faux-pas.

I think the poster above (johnnyteg), may be getting confused with the recent roll-out of 'Work Manager 2', and the introduction of 'Model Office'as to the vast ammountsb of travel we are currently enduring.

As a triallist of 'Model Office' on the WM 1 machine, I can assureJohnnyteg that it is MO that is the cause of the issue, not the WM2. WM2 (as with WM1), just issues jobs as it sees fit which usually entails travelling to other far reaching areas, previously manual intervention has stopped this, but with MO the 'Contollers' are told to leave well alone from manual intervention and allow WM to run things automatically. Discipline awaits any deviance from these rules, barring obvious instances such a health and safety issue.

Just for clarity purpose.

PS ... Welcome Jteg and I'm a JDSU man myself.

Im sure management will revert back when the fuel bills are reviewed   When your patch trial'd it did you not feedback the issues? Or you did, and the usual happens they went ahead anyway?

Im a Exfo guy, which is very rare in our region good bit of kit.
