So as not to prolong the hijack of eliw's thread (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,11165.msg216874.html#msg216874) (12 days after 80/20 install - help please - possible line fault) I am posting, here, a couple of images of my Tester SA9083 -- nice and snug in it's tan leather case.

Still to this day, the best bit of kit for internal wiring faults. (IMO). :)

Until such time as the "B-A" push button becomes a little bit indifferent and the meter requires servicing . . . :-X

If the 'B-A' button ceases, just swop the wires round on the circuit your testing. ;)

Perhaps the "B-A" button contacts have become somewhat indifferent and so any touch of just the side of the button -- not an attempted depression thereof -- causes the meter to indicate readings in a "haywire" fashion. :-X

The problem with the 'B-A' button on these 9083's, is that they used to get some real hammer in the field. Not for what you might think though, as in testing the B leg to Earth, then pressing it to test the A leg to Earth ...... etc etc. This requires just a gentle press of the button.
However, for a rough guess as to the distance a pair of wires is travelling, we would set the scale to the 'Ohms x 100' scale and rapidly press the 'B-A' button. The ammount of scale deflection of the needle, would give an approximation of the distance. It saved on getting the 'Mole' out. ;D
But you may have already thought of that as well. ;) ;D
