How many security issues have these programs suffered? For a multi-billion buck corporation, Adobe does churn out some rubbish. There are many alternatives to acroread now. Okular is one of them. It's really good: it seems never to crash, it's open source, it appears to be 100% compatible with the Adobe reader, but doesn't suffer any of these security vulnerabilities.

I agree about Okular. It's my default PDF reader, and it hasn't given me any trouble at all.
