This "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." is PITB so often and I don't seem to successfully deal with it. Am wondering if an alternative player would be better than WMP. Suggestions please! :)

Real Player http://uk.real.com/realplayer and DivX player http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus are good.

I wouldn't use Real Player. It's very invasive. I use Smplayer or VLC. There is also the dated but still very effective Media Player Classic. Ask if you would like links to get any of them.
