Sale weatherman: Get ready for ‘worst winter in 200 years’ (http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1468247_sale-weatherman-get-ready-for-worst-winter-in-200-years)

Harry says it's going to be COLD AND DEEP and Harry has the unfortunate habit of being right  :'(

Well, ever the optimist  .... ;D  .....  that prediction was published on the 16th December  .....   I know it can have a sting in the tail but my fingers are  :fingers: for you.   A near neighbor,   a French Harry perhaps  ;D tells me that our winter is over  !! the moles are coming to the surface    :shrug2:   lots of  :sun:  :sun: but coolish  here.

When I read the title I thought, don't be dirty this is a family show.
Anyway, whilst this forecast may turn out correct or not, Bill Froggat has been very quiet about it for a number of years.
Thank you Adrian, the thermals are going through the washer right now. We will see how it all turns out.

that prediction was published on the 16th December  .....

oops he may have got lots of other stuff right, but he got that bit wrong.   Guess we shall have to wait and see.
Mind you he also mentions in there the very high winds off Blackpool just before xmas...  so maybe he meant this

It'll be interesting to see what happens ..... the predictions are not for that week in December, it is for the whole winter. Going on past evidence all the pressure/fronts/temperatures etc in certain locations . He is saying it all adds up to the possibility of a long hard winter.

Well the moles won't be coming up today !! :'(     our green/brown grass was frosted over this morning   ...the birds were skating instead of bathing  ;D    .....  as I said - sting in the tail ? :-\    the chateaux will be pleased    .....I was speaking to a couple of  'châtemains' the other day and they were saying we could do with some real cold weather  .....   and now we have  ;D

Yes Adrian looks like Harry was too near the mark... :o.  Those poor people in Europe with what they are going through (also the poor animals who are dying especially the birds  :( )  all we can hope is that we don't get as bad here... or too much of it if/when we do get the snow.

It's not too cold here this morning which makes me think after the rest of the week where it's been really cold, that snow might be on the way   but am hoping not of course.  Hope everyone keeps warm (Colin2 looks like the conservatory is your best bet  :D) and keeps safe whatever the weather throws at us.

Take care all !

Good morning everybody, -6 here as well. As my mother used to say it's too cold to snow.
I also feel for the poor souls that are dying from the cold weather. But you know mother nature has her way of natural selection.
Sorry if that sounds callous, it's not meant to be, just an observation.
The conservatory will have to wait this morning until the sun gets shining on it. It's not cold in there but not warm enough to sit in.
At least there is no wind about, and has not been for a couple of days now.
Nice one for Harry and his Almanac, my mother always swore by that. I think Paul should take more notice of it.

Stay warm and safe every-one.

SHEFFIELD has been warned to ‘batten down the hatches’ with heavy snow predicted to hit the city in the biggest freeze of the winter so far.

Forecasters say around 5cm of persistent snow will fall across the city tomorrow - and Sheffield Council is geared up in preparation.

A fleet of gritters has been salting the streets for days as temperatures plummet - reaching as low as -6C last night - and are ready to work throughout Saturday.

And there is 18,000 tonnes of grit in stock - enough for around 36 days - with around 100 snow wardens on standby to clear pathways and roads

5cm ............. :-X  ;D

It's quite pleasant out there.. :)

Well with all the hoo haa about how cold and frosty it was going to be last night I covered the car windscreen (with one of my best curtains) because I go out early to do the shopping on a Saturday. Although it was cold not a bit of frost to be seen anywhere, not until I sat in the motor and frosted up the inside of the screen. ???
I've got me sledge out waiting for this blizzard that is coming our way. What was it, 5cms or something. You watch, they will have the day wrong. Keep the snow shovel for another day Phil.

Stay warm and enjoy your day everyone.

No snow here..  no frost...  but instead weird ice.

I cant see out of my front windows.  It looks what it would look like during a down pour.. but clear ice.
My car is also enveloped in it..  a sheet of clear ice slightly rippled.  Never seen anything like it before.

Pavements are a bit treacherous so Ive not been out today and am sat reading my book for my book club and have both the central heating and fire on it so cold.

Just cold gloom here, in East Anglia. If you check an atlas, you will see that there is no land mass north of here before the North Pole is reached!  :-X

It's 4.5 degrees C in the roof space and 19 degrees C in the room where I'm sitting.  :(

My weather station tells me the wind is predominantly from the South, so you should be getting the cold that Scottiesmum is sending across.
19o you should be sat in your shirt sleeves. ;D
Put another jumper on and some extra socks.

I'll change it the wind has now swung round to the North East.

Couldn't believe it when it started snowing here late last night...and so we have snow too, snow joke!  Hope it doesn't stay too long, looked lovely when it first laid but now grey and slushy in some parts.  @ Uncy, glad you are doing your part with feeding the troups <snigger>....poor Sue, bet she was frozen to the shovel poor girl.

Fancy snow out in La Belle France where you are Kate...gosh, what a shock for the system!  Still, if you have the vino and plenty of food then you should be ok for a little while...otherwise get scotty a harness, build a sled and get him to run you to the shops.... ;D

Keep warm y'all but don't go working up a sweat with the snow shovels...else Sue will get the union on to you  ;D ;D ;D
