Title: Firefox8+Google+WinXP
Post by: Oranged on November 22, 2011, 10:15:58 AM
In the last few days predicitive text searching has been initiated in Firefox and/or Google and I can't identify what has caused it.

Google Instant is deselected.

In Firefox the "search for text" and "check my spelling" in Advanced are deselected.

No Firefox Add-ons have been added or removed recently.

Can anybody suggest any other settings/reasons because I'm baffled and my only thought is to use a restore point which I'd rather not do for such a basic problem.

Edit @ 17:35 :

So all 22 people who viewed this so far are baffled also ?

Interestingly  this happens on bing and ask.com search sites as well, and the results are different to Google so it has to be Firefox trying the engine to see if it has suggestions and since these do FF displays them. You can turn them off in the search bar at the top of the FF window but not when you are on the page itself. On ask.com you can turn them off but apparently not on Google.

See this thread on Google (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web+Search/thread?tid=5a69f1094357f31b&hl=en&start=800) where everyone is complaining but basically Google says TOUGH it stays. They say it enhances the user experience!
