I came across PDF XChange PDF Viewer today. It has a few extra features - like typing in existing pdf documents and it's free.

Good find - I may give it a whirl at some point in the near future.
pdfs are one of the things that seem to play silly beggars atm on a machine that probably needs a full format :/

Agreed, nice find and will more than likely come in very handy.
In-fact I wish I had had it yesterday to alter a small four page file document so as to be able to remove a few unneeded parts.
Thanks.....

There are 2 more here - from the Pegasus Mail discussion list - a recent topic.
Foxit http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
and
Visage http://www.visagesoft.com/products/pdfreader/
The latter looks basic, not tried Foxit yet.
BTW, with PDF Exchange Viewer, you can't edit a password protect document, BUT if it is 'printed' it with PDF Creator (free, open source) to create a new pdf document, then you can edit the new version. Bookmarks are lost though.
I use Serif Page Plus to do serious editing of pdf's (not free).

I have used Foxit, yesterday actually, because Adobe Reader would not print a document I needed (although there was no reason for it not to print) but it was saying something wrong with one of the graphics.
Foxit printed it with no problems. (Freeview Channel Guide)
However, it is not entirely possible to do away with Adobe PDF Reader entirely as some programs I have tried to install will not install without Adobe Reader. (even though Foxit was on the system, because Foxit runs from a folder and not from a system file)

That was why I got rid of Adobe, because it is cumbersome and loads all sorts of crap at system start-up. Foxit suits my needs.

Then just disable the startup in Config.
Although I have never needed to disable it, as it never starts at system start-up.
