Title: What do BT Throttle?
Post by: jaydog on October 19, 2011, 01:20:11 AM
Thinking of going to BT Broadband, and want to know what it is they throttle. I know it's P2P, but do they just throttle everyones connection at peak time?

I'll be mainly using it to stream iPlayer, LoveFilm, and downloading large files on my PS3.

Thanks.

Most ISP,s give preference to just internet browsing at peak times,p2p,online gaming are things that can be throttled due to high bandwidth, there is after all only a certain amount to go round. If eveyone was doing those activities at peak times the internet would grind to a halt.

Bandwidth costs money and like most things in life has to be paid for.

Well ADSL24 never ever throttle. They make a point of saying it.

Do you know for a fact BT throttle online gaming at peak time?

I think your best bet jaydog is to check out the BT forums as you require a specific answer

Of course you could always call the wonderful offshore BT support  :-X

You say you are happy with ADSL and they don't throttle,so why are you moving? What amount of mb do you download each month?

But if you are on an IPStream connection with ADSL24 (you say there's no LLU available) then that product has the same restrictions as if it was a direct BT product.....in fact there may be even more restrictions depending on how much capacity ADSL24 have purchased from BT.

Yes I am on IPstream, and it doesn't have the same restrictions. P2P isn't throttled at peak time with ADSL24.
