GREAT NEWS!
Your exchange is already on the rollout plan for BT Infinity.
December 2010 I believe.
The OpenReach Engineer I was chatting to the other day told me not to hold my breath.
December 2011 might be more realistic he reckoned.
And another engineer told me that the green cabinets are being built in the UK, shipped to China for the electronics to be fitted and then being shipped back. He also reckoned that if BT ripped out all their copper wires and sold them for scrap, the whole fibre rollout would be self-financing, given the present price of copper.
Cheers,
Peter

Have done this again............I am the one and only vote for my exchange.
It is telling me to forget any idea of having FTTC around here as there are less than 1,000 residences connected to that exchange :(
-
Is this just more hype from BT ???
I still maintain that those who already have good speeds will be more likely to see fftc, rather than those who are a long way from exchanges and getting poor speeds.
-
Maybe you are right UncleUB, but it could also be the ones that shout the loudest. They will be the ones in the largest cities darn sarf. ;)

Talking of large cities.........I live less than 3 miles from Sheffield City Centre and I am lucky to get 2.5MB,so its not just rural area's that struggle with poor speeds. :)
-
It might not be small UncleUB but it's north of Watford, and full of country bumpkins like my city. :D
Please read with tongue firmly in cheek.
-
I was number 7 on the list, I voted a few days ago and it's only at number 9 now !
At this rate my exchange will be upgraded in time for the next millenium :D
On a more serious note, I wish more people voted :(

Gentlefolk,
I am not impressed with the publicity asking all those interested to "vote" in order to add some of the PCP cabinets from another 5 exchanges.
The advertisements look pretty until you realise that they have already lost the race to Virgin's superior, but still only 1980s technology.
They are attempting to convince clients (and force all other BT wholesale CPs) to stay on a 1950s twisted pair network using copper and aluminium down to 0.32 mm diameter and (I think) still not offering a Universal Service Commitment for the broadband.
Even if the twisted pair is perfect it's only those with a D side line length of under 1 km who will see a reasonable, but still asymmetric, increase in mainly download speeds.
Given the financial position I can see why they hope to retain their revenues.
I know it's wishful thinking, but wouldn't UK plc be so much better off if only somebody could convince the telecoms industry to follow the moves in developing countries to install FTTH now instead of applying more bodges on such an old network design.
Sorry - end of bleat !
Kind regards,
Walter

I agree with you Walter but nothing is going to change until the government funds a major role out of the best available service format in the world and as I have said before we need to bring open reach back into public ownership as the private (needing profits) model will never make Britain a digital leader and not that far off we may even be seen as a third world country when it comes to the digital age.
-
Just like other publicly owned services that should never have been sold off. Like the next to be sold off The Post Office. Only the profit making parts are being sold, leaving the taxpayer to foot the loss making parts. >:(

Is anyone actually benefiting from BT's fttc yet.?
I haven't seen any posts by members who are.

Latest email update I have just received
Here's a quick positions update on The Race To Infinity:
1. Bermondsey, London
2. Bishopsgate, London
3. Canonbury, London
4. Clerkenwell, London
5. Covent Garden, London
Now why does that not surprise me.
-
Inevitable, wasn't it?
-
Its a pity they don't ahead of themselves with the actual fibre rollout
Whoops, we got a bit ahead of ourselves!
Apologies if you just received an email from us with the incorrect top 5 exchanges listed.
-
Yeah, looks like they have already decided.
Lets hope I am wrong and it is none of those London ones.
-
Gentlefolk,
YACU
Yet Another C... Up !!!
Apparently they were just testing the system and these are the first alphabetically in the list.

If only the waste, expense and resources of this operation were put to better use such as paying for a fibre run somewhere.
Kind regards,
Walter

About par for the course I'm afraid. Can they really expect users to believe in them.
I've just checked and there is 15 votes for my exchange now. I think I have a chance. A cat in hells chance.

GREAT NEWS!
Your exchange is already on the rollout plan for BT Infinity
I've seen April 2011 quoted, though with a 3km line and ADSL2+ 47 dB attenuation, I can't believe I'd be their first for consideration,
-
26 votes now at my exchange.......we are really motoring now.
-
ooooweeeeee! 157 votes out of 13,132 = 1.2% Hold on to your hats.

I hope you are not going round knocking on doors Colin...... :D

Gentlefolk,
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO END ?
This whole Infinity thing seems to be degenerating into an unmitigated disaster.
One has to ask how long such dysfunctional activity can continue without either serious harm to the provider or a major restructuring is undertaken?

In a word.............farcical

A person by the name of Fred Carno springs to mind, or organizing something in a brewery. ???
-
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO END ?
The answer should be obvious, as something infinite's end is never reached. ;) >:D
