It seems that O2 broadband will be slow between Sat 21st Nov (8am) and Sunday 22nd Nov(8am)
Don't know whether this affects Be users as well.
Dear Philip,
We’re sorry but your O2 Home Broadband will be slower than normal between this Saturday (21/11/2009) 08:00am and Sunday (22/11/2009) 08:00am. A transport company is doing some major track side maintenance work where we have some cables, which will affect the speed of your broadband service. Even though this is beyond our control, we’re sorry.
Once the work has been completed, your speed will return to normal.

Oh dear :(
It's good that O2 have at least given you advanced warning. :)
-
Apparently this is right across the uk.
-
I've not heard anything from Be, but since that seems to be applicable to the backhaul, you would think Be users would be affected too.
From O2 SS (http://broadband.o2.co.uk/broadbandstatus/view/)
This work may affect customers across the whole country but particularly those in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Nottingham, Reading and surrounding areas may be affected more than others.

I phoned O2 support and apparently O2 have 3 main servers,so even though the work will affect not all users,it will cause congestion as they will be re routed to other servers and thus cause slower speeds for nearly all.
I hope this makes sense. :)

I got the exact same email. I was pleased that I was forewarned. Not many would even bother.

I've not heard anything from Be,
I have, just now......
-
Yep me too
This weekend from 8am on Saturday 21st November to 8am on Sunday 22nd November 2009 you may experience some congestion on your broadband service due to major trackside maintenance work happening on our core fibre links. We're really sorry for the inconvenience this will cause and will do our best to keep the disruption to a minimum.
Some of you may not experience any issues...but we thought it better to be safe than sorry.
All the best -

Nothing here, but if it got any slower Access would be stopped.

>> Access would be stopped
:(
I see @ TBB that things are really bad right now for Access, and theres even mention of some users getting out early, or getting 3 months free. Certainly worth a try.
The guy told me that there's a fault with their radius server. It's not simply contention,
Hmmmm That doesnt sit right :flypig:
The RADIUS is where users are authenticated (logged in to O2 systems). If there was problems with the radius then customers would be able to get a session and/or there would be frequent drops of PPP.
Ive never heard of RADIUS problems causing slow speeds. In fact if theres a problem with the RADIUS, then you would expect those users who are still on a central to actually have more bandwidth. :-\

Some of us have got a better connection, we keep renewing until we get a 188IP as they seem quite good.
-
Well up to now my connection is virtually the same as it was yesterday. :fingers:
-
I expect congestion will get worse as the day wears on.
Mine is already being affected.. and Im seeing some pretty heavy congestion spiking going on at times down to a few hundred kb.
-
They should have this more often my connection has not been so good for weeks. :)
Now you LLU people know what it is like to be on access.
-
-
It seemed to have passed without too much disruption.........or did it,how was your connection?
-
I didn't really notice much yesterday since I didnt use my connection that much.
Things seem back to normalish today - speeds a bit slower than they should be, but that could be local contention.
