Title: Sky Installed Extension
Post by: jid on August 18, 2009, 11:52:55 AM
Hi all,

Today I have finally got around to moving my extension cable for the Sky+.

The room is being re decorated so an ideal time for me to do some un-wiring!

After taking out the wire the connection has massively improved (sorry guys, some stats here!)

Down Sync: 8000kbps
Down SNR: 6.9dB (wow!)
Attenuation : 30dB

Is this what my line should be expected to run? The SNR I have spare is good I guess is it?

Thanks all

Jamie

What was it before?

The SNR of 6db is perfect in my opinion and although it has room to drop, it is a lot better than most lines.

Thanks for the input Leo :)

Before when I put it on the 6dB profile it was hovering around 5.9dB to 6dB.

The problem I have is in the evenings and noise on the line but I have never had that much spare so i will see how it goes.

I always used to tweak it to 9dB Target which kept it behaved in the evenings.

Keep an eye on it Jid, but it should be fine. And i would suggest the extention is at fault.

Yes I knew the extension was at fault, but had to keep it because of my contract with Sky.

Very poor quality cable, even thought it had on the reel "Suitable for ADSL" ::)

Its gained 9 CRCs which isn't bad but I will see...

Load of CRCs and throughput went ::)

Has improved something but not everything.

I am not particularly bothered about lower sync of 7168kbps which the line manages with a 9dB target SNR so...

Thanks for the advice Leo

Appreciated :)
