Title: net limiter 2
Post by: jeffbb on March 23, 2009, 07:36:44 PM
Hi
I have had a couple of odd results with Net limiter 2 see attached document

2146MBytes in one hour on the 17th February

4,283MBytes in 1 HR.!! on the 8th of March

When I looked back at this data I thought that my wireless network might be used by someone else but its fully secured . I have disabled it in case .
Then I thought that the figures seemed VERY large
As far as I can see these figures are not possible  . the max on any day apart from these is generally <50MBytes never mind in one hour !!

4,283 MBytes/hr
 =4,283,000,000 Bytes/hr(roughly)
 =34,264,000,000 bits /hr
 =9,520,000 bits sec
 =9.5 Mbps  ??? (approx )  I wish.  ::)
If I haven't made a mistake ??
During Sunday evening or any evening my max throughput is < < 1Mbps more like ~500 Kbps

regards Jeff

Just taking a wild guess here, but have you transferred and DVD or very large files that you can think of during that period, as it may have gotten the "My computer / Local network & Internet" settings confused?
It may just be showing the "Total" of what was transferred, not just your internet connection.

Try highlighting them, one-by-one to see if that is the cause.

>> =9.5 Mbps

I did it the quick way (http://www.kitz.co.uk/tech/downloadcalc.htm), which as you say isnt possible in an hour on your connection.

I cant help but notice that says firefox, which will be designated internet traffic.
Any browsing of network files/cached videos, viewing pre-downloaded files?

Just to clear-up a point!
Is you PC part of a network?

If it is, then files transferred from another PC could count as received, depending on how you set-up NetLimiter.

Hi
Thanks for the replies .
My PC  is not part of a network. I have checked the local network and  firefox has nothing recorded for that date ! . Just to check I had a look at routerstast and that shows Local network activity but no internet activity ,which is as it should be .

Any browsing of network files/cached videos, viewing pre-downloaded files?

Not that I can think of the longest I have ever watched anything like BBC Iplayer is half an hour (not downloaded no peer to peer ).
A mystery ? ???
I have now got netmeter running as well will compare the two records for the next month.

Regards Jeff

Technically this/that would have counted as a download.
But as Kitz say's, possibly it;s just a blip.

Just like my 2007 stats of "19,927 GB download and 16,241 GB upload"
But that's another story.
