Title: DELL Printers
Post by: UncleUB on February 26, 2009, 12:36:45 PM
Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has ever had/used a Dell printer.

Are these Lexmark printers re-badged?

Dell have used various printer manufacturers in the past, ranging from Philips, Brother and  Lexmark.
The printers are re badged and the cartridges are often modified so that you can only use Dell supplied cartridges.
I suggest checking 3rd party cartridge availability before purchasing.

Not to mention current replacement cartridges.
Lexmark I think must be the dearest ink replacement manufacturer on the market.
(Barge pole and not touching  comes to mind)

I use a Dell printer  (about 3 years old) that came as part of the full package I bought at that time.  It has given excellent service and is a Lexmark printer basically (you can see that from the Drivers).  I used to use Dell cartridges (very expensive) but following a recommendation from UncleUB on this forum I got my last lot from www.justinkandpaper.com who are based in Guernsey.  Their website identified the Lexmark cartridges needed from the Dell Printer model details and the prices were about 60% of the Dell cartridge price.  The cartridges have worked fine and look exactly like my old Dell ones except for the name on the wrapping paper (and Dell used to always send a freepost envelope for recycling the old cartridges). :)

What I'm looking for is a multi function printer, max budget  £70-80.I don't need the fax facility just print, decent scan and copy.
I don't do a lot of printing, just a few documents and the odd photo or two(I tend to use Snapfish for all my mass photo printing).
I have a HP Photosmart at present but would like to move away from HP.Any suggestions ?

I have 2 Lexmark all in one printers and can only say that the ink is cheaper than my previous HP and Epson printers I have had in the past.

I buy all cartridges in 2 in one packs from a merchant on Amazon called Quigleys:-

I buy a #17 and #27 multipack from them for a great price of 16.63 which comes to just under £20 with delivery.

I'm sorry, but did you read my last post?

However, in fairness, it is difficult to compare a cost comparison without knowing the amount of the actual contents.

The main problem with Lexmark is that there are very few non genuine suppliers around, hence the "Rip-of Price" that you end-up paying with Lexmark.

Yes it is difficult to found good suppliers however I find Tescos are pretty good.

Don't the contents though :-\
