I normally stay well out of politics.. but the reaction in Parliment well.. I'll let you make up your own minds who started it. - linky (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Politics/Baby-P-Case-And-Haringey-Council-Dominates-Gordon-Brown-And-David-Camerons-PMQs-Battle/Article/200811215150033?lpos=Politics_Article_Related_Content_Region_5&lid=ARTICLE_15150033_Baby_P_Case_And_Haringey_Council_Dominates_Gordon_Brown_And_David_Camerons_PMQs_Battle)
To me the important thing is how on eath a 17 month old was allowed to go through such torture, and why it wasn't spotted.
This kid suffered 50 injuries during the period of the 60 times he was seen by health or social workers (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Haringey-Council-Says-Sorry-After-Death-Of-Baby-P-Comes-As-Review-Of-Child-Welfare-Services-Begins/Article/200811215150446?lpos=UK_News_Carousel_Region_2&lid=ARTICLE_15150446_Haringey_Council_Says_Sorry_After_Death_Of_Baby_P%3A_Comes_As_Review_Of_Child_Welfare_Services_Begins).. and
"On Baby P's final day alive, August 2, police told his mother that they would take no further action over suspicions she had assaulted him" .
God are these people blind? :-X

The whole PMQ's session was most unedifying all round.
If you'd seen The Daily Politics at lunchtime today (with both main parties represented) it was a much more rational, and I have to say surprisingly consensual, discussion on the same problem.
For what it's worth I think Cameron made a mistake by trying to score points on such a tragic issue, the PM should have dealt with it differently and Cameron shouldn't have kept banging on about it. They all looked pretty pathetic.

Politicians will always jump on bandwagons, and it's never an edifying sight. But one of the most sickening aspects of this sickening case was the way that Harringey Social Services tried to wash their hands of responsibility. It truly beggars belief that they let this happen right under their noses.
-
Hi
Always the same politicians are opportunists they don't care about anything except how to be top dog. The social services have NEVER taken responsibility for their actions or should I say inactions in this and other cases . This is one of many similar cases that will not see any one person held responsible.. . The will say there are lessons to be learnt .
Such a waste , my hope is that because of the furore created it will NOT be allowed to happen again and that platitudes will NOT win the day

What really beggars belief in this case is that not only has it happened, but again for the second time within the same councils jurisdiction.
Words fail me, well they don't but are not repeatable here.
-
What annoys me about this is that the social services department have given themselves a huge pat on the back about their general performance over the past year or so, and no heads are going to roll.
-
Sometimes , as they say, "Sh*t happens".
I'm not one, unilike the Daily Mail and opportunistic politicians, to jump to conclusions.
(e.g. I can't believe that everyone involved wasn't actually trying to do their best)
-
Hi
I agree the majority probably are trying their best BUT it may be that with some individuals the their best is NOT good enough. Not when a baby's life is at stake . Someone MUST take responsibility, which NEVER seems to happen. As profesionals they must have a high standard ,those that do not meet it should not be in that position.

Yes, and why can't those vile so-called parents be named & shamed?
-
Hi
It makes you feel so helpless when you see these incompetent people being looked after (full pay) and the killers lawyers already looking to protect the Identity of their clients . Of course the tax payer will have to pay for all that. >:(

Probably because when it comes to trial, some legal bod will attempt to say unfair trial due to people (jury) having already formed their own judgements before the date of trial. :(

probably >:(
