Siill getting RF interfence from shortwave radio it just lowers the SNR somewhat during the evening but at can see it clearly and hear it using RTL SDR spectum this one is for you B*CAT

Is that China Radio International? Or do you now receive some different transmissions during the hours of darkness?

There are half a dozen different stations in that SDR image they are mostley none english once I get the larger antenna up I should pick up more, Cheers for links aways good reading most peole around here are moving a way from VDSL for full Optical so get less crosstalk these days.

7.4 MHz x 1000 / 4.3125 kHz per sub-carrier ~= 1716

And around sub-carrier index (tone) number 1716 you have that notch in the DS2 band.

As I understand things, there is a lot of FTTP now deployed in Northern Ireland. I guess that your village will eventually receive an upgrade once the deployments in Helen's Bay and Bangor have become significant.

Most of the village and here now has opical points on the DSP have to say openreach did a hell of alot of work getting it installed over the last 7 months, now I am like you BC I dont really need to upgrade  full fibre as what we have is sufficient yet if as was a alot younger I would eat the Bandwidth yet would like the stability of Opitcal.

Without a VDSL2 link in the pathway there would be no way for hours of darkness, long range, HF broadcast transmissions to degrade the service.

To be honest with you BC having a Broadband technition come into the house and drill holes just to fit a ONT unit which needs its own power supply seems over the top and yes I understand the need to replace dropwire for opical cable it reminds me of the old days were a HG612 and seperate modem was required needing a engineer visit to install

The ONT and Modem Router could be an all in one unit does that sound familiar HG612 and HH3  :) just needs the end user to hook up some optical cable at there end.kind of like a data extension kit

I avoided all of that by waiting until VDSL2 technology in the UK had matured into being a self-install process.

Its a kind a laugh BC are DB pole must be marked as unclimable as when a new FTTC connection is made they allways need a cheery picker van so two enginners for one job though the DB pole has small steps just sounds like waisted £££ to me.

I'm off the opposite opinion, I prefer an engineer install who can prove the quality of the line and fit a suitable filter.  I was annoyed by the time my street got VDSL it had gone self-install.

I feel a little differently now, mostly due to pandemic issues and less inclined to have people in the house.

If that is the case, there will be a red D label attached to the pole. However, I seem to remember that your neighbours hedge had grown around the bottom of the pole and that would make it impossible to check for decay, etc. Hence the mandatory usage of the pneumatic hoist.

I've just checked via Google Street View and see that the images of your village were updated in March 2022. Looking at the pole, it is just as I remembered . . . one could describe it as "growing out" of your neighbour's hedge.

Take your sound bar for example and you want to connect to optical input just purcase a suitable optical cabe may be its more complex for ont i dont realy know.

Yeah BC loads of ivy creeping up that pole
