Title: Getting Vigor 130 working with BT Infinity
Post by: newguy on September 04, 2018, 09:38:39 PM
Hello,

I've bought a new Vigor 130 to replace a Homehub 6 and I keep getting the following which I think means the 'net is down.

How do I sort it please?

v130 is just a modem. you need a router hanging off the back of it. Your modem is synced to the cab.

Yes, I've connected a Ubiquiti USG, Switch and Cloud Key to it but can't download a firmware update so just wanted to make sure the Vigor is actually connecting considering the WAN says offline?

Surely the Vigor 130 will just be synchronised with the cabinet DSLAM . . . without an appropriate device connected, to be a PPP end-point, there will be no connection to your ISP/CP's service?

In that case any ideas on if I am missing a step?

I've got the Vigor1 130 connected to the WAN port on the USG. A switch connected to the LAN port on the USG and then Cloudkey connected to the switch.

It looks like you are synced up at 55/10 speeds.  As the Vigor is a modem only in your router you should be looking for a setting that allows you to select PPPOE with a Username and Password as provided by the ISP.  I am not familiar with your equipment but if how you describe your setup is correct these settings should be in the USG (not actually knowing what USG is though!)?

My guess is that the USG was originally plugged into the HH LAN side in normal router mode, and probably double NATted. The HH was not in bridge mode.

Now the modem is plugged directly into the USG, the USG needs the PPP settings added.

Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Security Gateway (https://www.ubnt.com/unifi-routing/usg/), a.k.a. a USG.

Item 3 on page 15 of the quick setup guide - PPPOE

Well I've gotten to the USG homepage and need to enter PPPoE details.

I enter:

Username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password: BT

And I get access denied?

 :hmm:  Hmm . . .

With the USG disconnected from everything (other than its power supply), link its LAN port to a computer with a standard Ethernet patch cable. Open a web browser and enter https://setup.ubnt.com into the address bar.

You should then see either a login page (if the USG has been adopted by a UniFi Controller or the USG Setup window. If the former, just enter the credentials you have configured for the USG.

Which ever of the above two options was true you now need to get to the USG Setup window. Left-click on Edit Configuration and configure the WAN port for PPPoE. You should then be presented with two boxes for your ISP/CP's login credentials. Enter bthomehub@btbroadband.com and BT. Save the configuration.

Disconnect the Ethernet patch cable and plug all the equipment back together. Power-cycle the USG and wait.

Thanks for adding that. It's the page from the quickstart guideI referenced last night, two posts previously. Very helpful.

When did they introduce a password on BT broadband? I thought it was always blank.
Also, what setting are you using on the Vigo - I believe it can provide the PPOE authentication in some modes, others require the router to do so.
VLAN 101 needs to be included somewhere, not sure exactly where, have you got it set on the modem?

All - thanks for your help.

I simply left it connected a while (I did try entering the BT login details as mentioned previously, but they were not accepted by the USG) and it eventually seemed to work.

Now on to configuring the Ubiquiti stuff itself :)
