Title: FTTC impacted range
Post by: chenks on December 19, 2017, 08:02:24 AM
i keep an eye on my exchange for the clean and impacted range for FTTC (as i might be upgrading soon).
i've noticed that the low end impacted has dropped a bit recently. it's now at 63.6 low.

what is "impacted" and what is the reason that the impacted range might drop?
the "clean" range hasn't changed.

in terms of the cabinet, it's about 20 yards away from my house, and the telegraph pole is in my back garden.

@chenks. If I may butt in, have you also noticed that the hand-back thresholds are disproportionally harsher with impacted lines? Clean is ~89% of lower; impacted ~77%.

Impacted should mainly be for lines with unfiltered extension wiring (extension wiring without a centralised filtered faceplate). I suspect the estimates change based on the actual performance of other lines (and maybe even your own line if you had FTTC).

With those estimates, I wouldn't have thought it would matter much, whatever speed you get, it'll still be much faster than ADSL. Go for a 40/10 service if you might be bothered about not getting the full speed that you're paying for.

I'll point to my recent post to Oldjim's Downstream Handback Threshold (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,19204.msg360925.html#msg360925) thread.  ;)

@Chenks I wouldn't worry about the impacted speed estimates, you have a high of 80Mbps for both so with a line that short you should get maximum sync speed. I get full speed on a 350 metre line length.
