The profile on my FTTC connection is 16 Mbps down and 2 up (long standing long line problem). While checking on a recent apparent drop in performance I noticed that the BTW test was producing some unusually low figures. Today I ran a series of speed tests and the first BTW test produced 8.9 down and 0.4 up and an immediate retest produced 3.9/0.4. I always use the BTW test but I decided to check its results against some other speed test sites and the figures - all produced within 15 minutes of the first BTW test - were quite constant:
Ookla first test 14.9/0.4 second test 14.9/0.4
MyBB 15.0/0.5 15.1/0.5
TBB 14.7/0.4 14.6/0.4
Grateful for any suggestions as to the cause of these strange discrepancies.

Not sure what browser you are using on the BTw checker, there is a known issue with Firefox up to and including the current program revision, data speeds are consistantly incorrectly reported, I now use Pale Moon browser for speed testing / BRAS IP profile checking on the BTw facility.
