BT has been accused of laying old-fashioned cables that have left Britain trailing behind European rivals.
Critics say the firm's Openreach arm has been using outdated copper wires to connect homes to the internet, instead of fibre cables which families would need for superfast broadband.
The boss of Vodafone – the UK's biggest mobile phone company – yesterday attacked the move and blamed ministers for failing to force BT to put in the most modern technology.
Nick Jeffery, chief executive of Vodafone UK, said millions of homes and businesses still relied on old-fashioned copper wires to connect to the internet when they should be given access to faster technology.
I'm putting this article here more for debate than anything as its still considered news even if it comes from the DailyMail.
I don't mind these other companies having a go but most arent that constructive. They need to put up some of their money and come forward with plans instead of moaning. I half think these companies do this to deflect attention away from themselves. Wasn't Vodafone considering building its own full fibre network last month?

If vodafone is one of those companies who has been pushing ofcom to keep openreach wholesale revenue down then he can shut his trap, cannot have it both ways.
If not then apologies to vodafone for my comment. But he needs to understand openreach need to recover investment, and that cannot be done if they are strangled.

What an incredibly churlish and somewhat naïve comment, from Vodaphone's CEO. Talk about an open-ended statement ...... ffn idiot.

Of course neither Vodafone nor Mail give anything about the locations, do they? Maybe the infrastructure available to get fibre anywhere near to effect the final run of fibre to the addresses does not exist. Possibility?

Irrelevant to the location of local fibre.
OpenReach install what developers order. If they only order copper, they get copper.
Madness that so many developers still installing chipper on sites as OpenReach will install FTTP for free on sites with at least 30 properties.

When a developer asks for copper what's stopping OR saying they will install FTTP and explaining the benefits?
