Hi,
I moved from Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro to Plusnet 80/20 last month. I used to get download speeds of around 66 Mbps with Sky but they tended to be around 54 Mbps when I first joined Plusnet. I changed the modem from the ECI supplied by OR to the HG612 which gave me a 2 Mbps boost. After complaining a few times to Plusnet they said it's within tolerances.
According to the BT Broadband availability checker I get the following:
FTTC Range A (Clean): 66.9 - 80 Mbps
FTC Range B (Impacted): 56.9 - 80 Mbps
I telneted into the HG612 modem and got the following:

The max downstream is 70652 Kbps but the bearer is much lower at 61451 Kbps. Even with that, I would imagine a speedtest would be closer to 60 Mbps than 55 Mbps assuming overheads.
Any thoughts as to why I'm getting almost 10Mbps lower than I did with Sky? It's really puzzling me.

Possibly due to the absence of G.INP on your connection.
Are you on a Huawei cabinet or an ECI?

Does your HG612 have the latest firmware which supports G.INP?

Yeah it does. Firmware version B030SP08

I experienced a similar issue moving from BT to Plusnet in May which should hopefully today be resolved by an engineer.
On BT I was DSLAM banded 80/20 with a IP Profile of 65/20 after the migration took place it changed to a DSLAM banding of 74/17 and my IP Profile suddenly dropped to 56/20.
I've managed to finally convince Plusnet this week that this is wrong so a DLM reset is scheduled for today to fix this. Ask Plusnet for your PTTR & GEA service test results which will highlight your IP profile and your banding.

Just a quick update on this. After some complaining to Plus Net they escalated it to Openreach. They did some "remote work" on the line and now things are back to what I was getting with Sky.

The actual service is identical though - it's all Openreach provided infrastructure. It's the back-end that is different.

No. The DLM is the same for all users with a service provided via VDSL2. The service is carried over the fibre to the head-end exchange. At that point, the Sky users' service is "handed over" and then it becomes Sky's business as to how they treat it/control it.

I believe on ADSL (where Sky use their own DSLAM or MSAN in the exchange) that may have indeed been the case.

It must be incorrect for a Sky service over VDSL2. Every service is identical over the metallic pathway of VDSL2. The metallic pathway is between the CPE and the cabinet DSLAM.

The weird thing about Sky is as far as I knew, you could only order Sky FTTC if they had LLUd one's exchange.
I can confirm that my exchange isn't Sky-LLUd (I cannot order Sky's ADSL packages - I only get the Connect package) but I can order Sky FTTC.
Does Sky not use LLU backhaul at the exchange for FTTC?

I've got no string, but I had several bunnies which the siamese cats brought in and released unharmed in the bedroom, where they were all tearing around, and so I could happily let burakkucat have those. The old ginger cat and the lurcher were jointly guarding a dead bunny on the landing, until the dog went off and buried the bunny. The siamese threw a dead bird at me and nearly hit me in bed, it's no fun now, so bunnies are the only gifts on offer just at the moment. :-)
