Title: Increased SNR when towns power went down.
Post by: Bowdon on April 02, 2015, 10:37:12 PM
I noticed that both my download and upload's SNR has increase to 7.7 and 8.3 (usually 6.5 and 6.6) when the power to the rest of the town as gone down.

What's interesting is that at the same time Virgin Media's cable services have gone down at the same time.

I'm liking this SNR.. I wonder if the rest of the town can keep in darkness so I can get better speeds!?  :D

I guess it is a question of how long the battery in your UPS and the batteries in the fibre cabinet will last . . .  ;)

lol  :)

I haven't changed over to the UPS yet. I keep waiting for my modem to drop line.

Apparently the power as been restored in the town, but my SNR levels are still higher than normal, and so far I've not had any ES since.

I'm on an ECI cabinet. I guess if they did add g.inp on to the cabinet it would drop my modem connection?

Edit: SNR dropped back to normal grr lol... anymore powercuts anyone!? lol.. Though it does show most of my ES's are coming from electrical interference outside of my house.

lol and how many would be tempted to cut a line if we knew which house that bad disturber belonged to?   If one disturber can affect a line by say 5Mb, then I can imagine what impact it could have if everyone else but you were down.

Try this - I'm on UPS, whole rest of area is out of power for a couple of hours!  If only....

wow. What's attainable look like for that period? Many people on your cab or is it something else? :)

That's the lower graph....

Just all the rubbish that's normally there over ~800m, mostly crosstalk....  I was second on the cab over a year ago and that was also the attainable then...

So crosstalk there is worth 9dB and 20Mbps!

Actually, > 55Mbps isn't bad for an 800m line. Hopefully a lot of that is recoverable with vectoring.
