b*cat has just returned from his prowl around the various eBay offerings and thought that the following should be shared with his fellow Kitizens --
Strowger Telephone Exchange Fully Working A One Of Museum Piece Rare (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281627435667)
The accompanying text states --
What we have here is my grandfathers fully operational telephone exchange. He was a gpo engineer moving over to BT in later life and has spent his whole life with a passion for amateur radio and telephony. This is something he built in retirement and has kept all diagrams etc etc. we really know very little about this but it deserves to be in a museum in our opinion.

I'd love to have that to play with, but time and space would never permit. The guy's right - it should be in a museum.
-
I suspect that a strengthened floor would be a prerequisite for ownership . . . ;)
-
I imagine that could be a plaything much appreciated in the cattery. :D
-
If I had the room I'd be bidding on that!
Reminds me - I must get round to visiting the Avoncroft (http://www.connected-earth.com/Partnermuseums/AvoncroftMuseum/index.htm) museum, which has a working UAX13 and some TXE2 kit.
-
Bidding was started at £0-99 and is currently at £701-00, with seven more days to go! I wonder if it will exceed the £1000-00 mark? ;D
-
Eee - that'd be Grand. ;)
-
A Grand or more for the late Granddad's retirement hobby/plaything . . . That would be just purrfect. :D

There was one in a Derby museum but that closed because of budget cuts so I hope that one has been kept safe or gone to another museum.
