I, by usual custom, leave my computer on and on line, unless I am out for a considerable time.
That was the situation today. Resuming after lunch I did a web search and for some reason the computer powered off and straightway on.
The event log attached shows a session time out, but AFAIK this has not occurred before in similar circumstances. Do the other entries look OK, as I guess they are?
Also yesterday whilst we were out something happened to make SNRM target increase from 3 to 6 dB and reduce interleaving depth form 64 to 32. I have no log data.
All seems odd that the behaviour has altered. Ideas? is there a problem lurking about?

I presume all those telnet login/logout entries are DSLstats sampling every 15 seconds. The session timeout would probably have been the result of the event you described causing DSLstats to temporarily lose contact with the router.
Are you sure that the computer did actually power off, and it wasn't just a temporary blanking of the screen?
It would be a good idea to configure the router to synchronise its time using NTP, then the log entries can be directly linked to events which occur.
-
Hi! yes there was a click as it went off and then on again, status light likewise. The config details show time server as ntp.plus.net.
-
NTP doesn't seem to be working, so maybe you should try a different time source. I always use uk.pool.ntp.org , with europe.pool.ntp.org as an alternative.
-
Config incl time server is shown as automatic, and the router being a 582N, does not appear to have a way to change that bar ?possibly? reinstallation!
I could be wrong though, knowing me!
-
I can't check it at the moment, but there's probably a way (if you can find your way though the impenetrable web interface).
-
To save Eric the bother:
TG582n:
Login to the Web interface
click Technicolor Gateway tab on the left to expand it
click Configuration below it
click Configure from the 3 options top right
supply URLs or IP addresses for up to 5 time-servers of your choice in Time Configuration
Apply
Check Event Logs on the left subsequently looking for a time sync.
HTH :)

Thanks for that! :) But unfortunately, having got to the page ( see pdf att) I cannot see any way to access the optional time servers.

Did you click the Configure - next to the Details in blue at the top right of the screen in your pdf?
Try that. :fingers:

I thought I had :-\ but may be not, as another attempt succeeded. Now often should sync take place?
Thanks all for help :)
-
I would expect it to sync shortly after you changed the server, but I can't be sure.
-
My clear English is also getting wobblier! ;D I meant how often.
-
About once an hour in normal circumstances. However, if it fails to contact any time server at all for some reason (e.g. network down) it will repeat the attempts at a shorter interval, e.g. 5-10mins, until it resyncs again before resuming an hourly interval.

Slightly OT, but the router's event logs are chockker with
LOGOUT User admin logged out on TELNET (192.168.1.XX)
LOGIN User admin logged in on TELNET (192.168.1.XX)
entries as Dslstats takes every 30 sec sample.
Is there a way to suppress their appearance in the visible log, whilst not suppressing Dslstats' sampling?
-
I dont think you can permanently suppress them.
You could try using the filters to view logs though.
