Title: Anyone got HG612 working on Sky ADSL2+?
Post by: Dangeruss on January 07, 2017, 09:49:55 PM
Hi, I've been trying for a while to get the hg612 working on my sky ADSL connection. My plan (hopefully) is to use it in  bridge mode as a gateway for another router. I've been through the usual unlocking procedure. Tried B030SP08 firmware first (both unlocked & webgui) which I managed to get the wan connected, dsl synched and all the right numbers come up in the right places, ( IP, subnet mask, etc) apart from dsl connection mode & type showing wrong info (gdmt, ptm) despite what was set and no DSL up time. I've since reverted to B030SP06 which seemed more promising as the dsl connection mode and traffic type were showing the correct info ( adsl2+, ATM) but alas still no luck and out of ideas. If someone could throw me a bone or point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.

Hello,

Have you added an atm connection on the WAN page...as shown below?

and checked the correct boxes on the DSL page??

Ian

I used to use install@o2broadband.co.uk on my connection.
It also requires 'mer' in settings.

I'm pretty sure that all sky ADSL lines are back on PPPoA now.

Morning, thanks for the replies. I can confirm, I do  have an ATM connection setup as shown Ian. Got the details off of my sky sr102 which shows it as being adsl2+ & PPPoA. Out of desperation I've also already tried the install@o2 method, although I wasn't aware it had to be mer (which I haven't seen anywhere in the settings). Not sure if this will help, but here's my exchange. https://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WNPG. Let me know what info is needed (logs etc) and I'll do my best to provide it. Seems like all my info is correct and all the line stats are there but I'm not being authorised to use it, maybe?

Sorry yes your right :-[ I was using a Billion 7800n which has the mer (Option61) box

Encapsulation: PPPoA
Username: install@o2broadband.co.uk
Password: install
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Multiplexing: VC-BASED

Have you tried these settings?

I've just given the install@o2 another try, and noticed that when I've entered the details and click submit the password changes from the 7 letter install to a mysterious 8 letter one. Tried removing the ATM wan connection and creating a fresh one, only to find it happening again. I'll try a factory reset and let you know how I get on.

You should not have to enter any authentication details if the modem is in bridge mode, the router handles the connection.

I have tried that route already Ian, but after reinstalling every firmware I have and still being plagued by that mysterious password, I may find myself down that road shortly. Is it possible that someone may have hard coded a password into the modem??

Ok will do boost. Thought I'd try a copy and paste of the password that keeps popping up instead of mine into notepad. It shows up as 192.168.0.2. Might have something to do with my probs maybe?

You have NAT ticked. I thought you wanted to bridge the modem to a router?

I started off with bridge mode, but wasn't successful. I'm just trying to get a connection now. I thought by removing a device I'd reduce the amount of variables = better chance of success. Lol
Maybe a bit of info on my hopefully achievable setup will help. Hg612 gateway bridged to Asus AC 51u ( I got this setup free due to a family member upgrading). I've done a lot of reading and it seems as though people have success through custom firmware like ddwrt, merlin etc, which unfortunately do not support the ac51 and have the option61 option. Padavan is the only exception. I've since reverted back to stock firmware as it seems to have most of the options that other people who succeed have.

Without sight of your HG612 config, I guess you'll try for a pppoe bridge and your router will just have to initiate a pppoe session using the install credentials to get a connection.

These are my bridge settings. Didn't have much luck though. Tried alot of settings on the asus. Closest i came to a connection was by entering all my details manually. The asus showed as being connected but it was lying  ???

Did you try Encapsulation mode set to LLC? That worked for me once.

What makes you think the ASUS was lying?

Have you/do you get an active dsl connection with your bridge mode settings??? (ie do you get sync)

if you do, then the next job is to setup your PPPoe connection on your router....what router are you using?

1: I have tried LLC. I've tried many different combinations in desperation. 2: When I connected to it with multiple devices, I wasn't able to access the internet. It was with a static IP which as far as I'm aware sky don't do, so would of been a short term fix?  I've noticed in the logs that the time and date has synched correctly a couple of times recently, still no dsl up time though. Just did an auto diagnose ping test on the 612 , which said that connecting  the PPPoE of the default gateway failed. As far as I'm aware all my details are correctly wiresharked from the sr102, I did it twice just to make sure. KITUSER my Atm wan is connected and DSL synched with those bridge settings. Onto the asus

Is that a GUI bug? have you checked the stats via telnet

What model asus (and what firmware) is the special option 60 required for sky adsl2??

Do you require merlin custom firmware for that??

Here's the stats. It's the ac51u, which unfortunately isn't supported by merlin, ddwrt etc, because it hasn't got a broadcom chip. Padavan is the only third party firmware and that didn't have  an option 60 / 61 option if that's what's needed.? The hg612 has option 60 support, but i entered what I got off wireshark and it didn't make a difference. Any idea what option 60 info should look like?

Did you know you can plug the HG612 LAN1 into any port on the SR102 and it will recognise there is a modem present and will use it?

I didn't know that actually. Problem is I'm trying to remove the sr102 from the equation as its not very customisable and wi-fi signal is poor.

This is just to test the modem is configured correctly. Alternatively you can connect the modem to a PC and use the built-in PPPoE dialler http://kb.netgear.com/20306/Creating-a-PPPoE-Dial-Up-Connection-on-Windows-7
