Is it normal for in your training period for the line to re-sync in the morning and then again at night every day?
I have had a stable 3200kbps connection for around 18-24months with orange and sky,i have switched to idnet and my line now seems totally unstable,I started at 3700kbps then dropped to 2700kbps then went up to 3200kbps then dropped to 2300kbps and now it has dropped to 2100kbps.Idnet have said lines degrade over time but surely the line can't degrade from stable 3200 sync to unstable 2100 sync that fast? the thing im concerned about is im getting no errors/very few on the line and then all of a sudden im getting a burst of 1000crc errors and 3000crc over a few minutes which is dropping the connection
what does that sound like to everyone?
(i have got no problem bt comming out because i have tried everything on my end and am sure its nothing i can rectify)

I would classify that as abnormal behaviour.
As for the errors, hmm, it is difficult to say -- as remote web diagnosis is not a precision science, more of a black art.
Please set up routerstats (http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm#routerstats) and use it to log the "happenings" on your line over a period of time. Once you have sufficient data logged, the various Wizards of this forum will be able to give you a considered opinion.

I have now jumped up to 3300Kbps and am sure at around 5pm-6pm this afternoon it will re-sync back down to 2100Kbps(the thing that's really annoying is because I'm on up-to 8mb my ip profile is now stuck for up to three days)
The odd thing on this mornings re-sync is on my 2700hgv is it normally says ERR_SIG_INTRUP but this morning it says RETRAIN_HIGHER

Hi
without seeing your Stats its difficult to comment .However This swing in Synch rate after losing connection can probably be explained . When you lose synch it may be caused at a time of "high" noise so when you resynch then your Target SNR margin will be used during negotiations so the synch rate will drop . Then the noise condition disappears ,and if during that period you resynch the the synch rate will increase .
When you get RS running can you plot graphs of your SNR margin and synch rate ,making sure that you cover the times you have these problems.

Here are the stats from my router, idnet are now starting to annoy me because all they are saying is it's within spec(I wish I had went with Zen)

Hi Woppy et al,
Some of the failure titles seem unusual.
I've only seen Err Sig Interrupt occasionally and I've never seen Retrain higher before. Comments from anyone else please?
Given that the description on Mgn 1 and Mgn 2 are Noise margin at start of connection and Current or final noise margin, there are some large increases in the Margin 2 figures almost as if the actual noise drops quite a bit during the sync process ? I believe the figures do not change unless a screen refresh is done so I don't think that difference is a gradual improvement over an extended time, but only the snapshot during the sync. process.
Kind regards,
Walter

What does Err Sig Interrupt meen because that's the main error a get,the thing. Understand is idnet have said my router hasn't dropped since Sunday but these stats say otherwise
-
Hi
Its quite possible that IDnet may not see the drop if the disconnection is very short .
Basically there are 3 UPtimes Lan,Wan ,PPoA.
Lan is your local network ,that is when your router can communicate with your network(even if you only have 1 pc)
Wan this is when you have established connection to the exchange .
PPoA this is when you have made the connection to the ISP.
So if your router is re-establishing Wan connection quickly enough your ISP will not see the drop outs .

Hi again Woppy,
I can confirm that there are many occasions where an ISP doesn't record the short-duration re-syncs with the 2Wire.
I guess a signal interruption is just that (rather than a software interrupt).
You might try searching the 2Wire logs, perhaps by copying and pasting every page into a document and then searching for the word interrupt.
There is often a error summary page you might try as well.
Here are some typical errors from a V 4 user manual:-
Exit Code Indicates the reason for a lost connection or a terminated training attempt.
Following are examples of the typical values that can be represented:
ERR_LOF_LIMIT - Retrained due to loss of framing.
ERR_LOS_LIMIT - Retrained due to loss of signal.
ERR_HI_BER_LIMIT - Retrained due to excessive CRCs.
RESTART - System deliberately restarted modem (line search, reprovisioning, or 30-
second timeout when waiting for DSL signal.
ERR_STATE_TIMEOUT - Modem timed out during training (for example, the modem
failed to detect pilot signal at the appropriate time).
ERR_ALL_OPTIONS_FAIL - Failed to negotiate a final bitrate with DSLAM.
RETRAIN_HIGHER - Proactive retrain in order to obtain a significantly higher connect
rate.
Kind regards,
Walter

Hmm, there is a description in the 2Wire documentation [1] . . . I've recently read about "Retrain higher" but can't recall in which manual it appeared. You do have all that documentation, don't you, Walter? If not, I'm sure I could send it to you. ;)

Quick question, I have the option to change to a second phone line in my house, the line that I can change to is around 8m shorter than the one I have now will that make much of a difference to my line speed of will it most likely be negligible?
-
8m will make no discernible difference, but a different line will have different characterisics, even if it's in the same cable bundle. So changing to the other line might give an improvement or it might be worse.
-
I think I might just get it connected any way and keep the best one
-
well im now on day 10 and already have had 4 disconects since the power cut yesterday i have attached my stats page anyone have any ideas

I think I will be leaving idnet tomorrow morning,EIGHT DROPS in one day on the last day of the training period and to still be told "lines degrade over time and your getting 1.5mb which is what bt says you can get so tough" is not good enough
I really really wish I had stayed where I was or gone to Zen

how does my bit loading look
also how does this look i cant make head nor tail of it

Hi
quote : I really really wish I had stayed where I was or gone to Zen
Well you do tend to get what you pay for . :(
Connections can degrade over time but not at this rate if it did by next week you would have nothing . You should still be expecting to get about 3000 Kbps .Your bit loading looks ok no obvious problems . What is synch rate for this Bit loading ,very rough estimate it seems to be about 2500Kbps allowing for overheads .
