Title: Seems something odd?
Post by: renluop on June 01, 2015, 07:26:27 AM
DSLStats records that today traffic has been; down 7.51 MB, up 1.66MB, whilst PN View my usage 839.45KB. There seems something piscatorial somewhere. Opinions please!

The amounts mentioned are very small, so hardly worth bothering about. At a guess, DSLstats is including the small amounts of traffic which move up and down even when there is no actual data transfer, but PN are only recording actual data transfer through their system.

No, there are continuous exchanges of data between the modem and the DSLAM as part of the maintenance of the connection, and these continue even when the PPP connection with the ISP is broken.

Thanks for the kind reply to my all too clear ignorance. :-[

I am probably way off beam that the modem DSLAM communication will not be an excessive amount of the traffic.

IIRC the PN usage figures are at least a couple of hours behind real time?

Ah yes, I think that's right.
