I have just purchased a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A from Ebay configured for Zen so will have to factory reset it for my TTB/Uno line. But was wondering if anyone is using the above or similar ZyXel model that has MWDS running to I can compare with my TP-Link TD-W9970 graphs on MWDS.
Cheers

There are 2 uploading to mdws.. have a look under all stats.
One called pmfc and the other dty.

I have just purchased a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A from Ebay configured for Zen . . .
I thought Zen (https://www.zen.co.uk/) supplied the ZyXEL VMG1312-B10D . . . they certainly did so when I purchased the one that I am using.
I know that A&A (https://www.aaisp.net.uk/) supply the ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A.
When it is delivered, your first task should be to clear the ROM-D and then install the latest firmware image.
-
It is according to the Ebay description a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10D from Zen. I have just downloaded the latest firmware from the ZyXel site. Is it easy to put into bridge mode as looking at the Manual I cannot see any obvious way. Still studying though.
-
Hopefully it is a ZyXEL VMG1312-B10D as I believe that to be the better of the 2 models. Someone can correct me if I got that the wrong way round.
-
Found this https://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/ZyXEL-VMG1312-VMG8924-Bridge-Mode while browsing now all I need to know is if you can change the router IP for stats collection.
Edit: Found it in the manual, LAN IP setting looks pretty straight forward. Now just to wait for delivery.
-
I was under the impression the B10D was the budget Chipset and the B10A is the more powerfull chipset, yep it's got a third 3 meaning budget BCM 63381
The third digit, when set to 3 (like in BCM6335, BCM6338) denotes a single-chip and cost-reduction oriented design
-
I was under the impression the B10D was the budget Chipset and the B10A is the more powerfull chipset.
All I know is that the -B10A is the earlier device and the -B10D is the more recent device.
I'll ask my VMG1312-B10D to disclose its SoC --

Hence my query. :)

Thank you for the explanation. Team-work prevails!
-
It is in fact described as a B10D on the Ebay listing my first post is incorrect. :D
-
Thought I would send that command to the 8800NL R1 and BogoMips are way lower than the B10D unless it's CPU is running in idle mode or the B10D CPU is being overclocked :-\

I'm offline at the moment after disabling MDWS upload during the recent issues and then going off on holiday without the means to re-enable. I found the 10A better than the 10D on my lines.
-
So, in summary --
- ZyXEL VMG1312-B10A is a BCM63168
- ZyXEL VMG1312-B10D is a BCM63381
- Biliion 8800NL R1 is a BCM63168
- Billion 8800NL R2 is a BCM63381
-
It would be useful if we had a list of modems and their exact chipsets.

There is a lot of information available here, spread throughout many forum threads. Perhaps somebody would be willing to take on the enormous task of trawling through all forum threads, in reverse chronological order, to extract such information? :-\
-
You can add the Billion 8800NL R2 to the list as a BCM63381

Done. And we have now started a disorganised hijack of banger's thread. :-X ::)

As you have sort of hijacked my thread can I pick your brains about the VMG1312-B10D. What is the best firmware for this device? I have downloaded the firmware from Nov 2016 but there are other versions.
-
I am using the latest available firmware image with my VMG1312-B10D, which is V5.11(AAXA.4)C0 (as of the date of this post).
For documentation, firmware images, etc, I go to the ZyXEL Download Library (http://www.zyxel.com/uk/en/support/download_library.shtml) and enter the full device name, VMG1312-B10D, into the search box.

You are welcome.
Now if you are going to ask me about clearing the ROM-D image of the VMG1312-B10D, I will suggest that you perform a search (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?action=search;params=eJwtj82qwkAMhd_FjZsjdDKZ_uzdXi74AmU6DfhTrUxbRejDexQhkJwvOSGJ_SPekvXrdnXrZl0my9PdEmW35Hi5LCnO5F3-TkAUzkMdFBrgS6ggQEuw8vAMhQ9wNQROIXRUIGUuIQ18Ba0gAaQFajg2BA20gGPQ1EA8pIByEfvcVcILtIY2CAWCQxBeNB3HZ5vG632w2XjbBy3d2dLcjrfh9SNjntv-lKl6m9KPUGUb7Pv4B1nM6Uh4-P_b7d9f_E_v) specifying ROM-D as the search string and my name as the "by user" string. It should bring up a handful of my posts (including this one). Review them all and one will have all the relevant details.

The seller said to do a factory reset of the Zen supplied router using the factory reset button, would that not suffice to get rid of the Zen settings?
-
Think I have found it here -> http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,19022.msg340064.html#msg340064

No, not all of them. Each ISP can install their own "factory defaults" by installing their basic configuration into the ROM-D.

Yes, that's the one.
-
Just unlocked my HG612 in about 10 minutes following kitz guide on here and got stats over LAN 1 but sync not as good as my TP-Link W9970 (65½) the HG612 sync at 62.
Anyway cant wait for the Zyxel to turn up apparently will be sent Monday.
-
Could I ask Mr Banger what his goal is with his circuit you have tried the Billion R2 and TP-Link W9970 and now the HG612 ?
-
I am just testing modems to see which syncs highest with lowest errors. A little bit of trial and error without upsetting DLM too much. I quite like playing with modems and unlocking them. Hoping for reasonable sync from the Zyxel with low errors but we will see.
Does that satisfy your curiosity Mr N*Star?
-
Just be careful have seen curious kitizens get into DLM trouble with numerous modem swaps take it slow and use the 30 minute rule (modem off for 30 minutes before you change to another modem)
-
Duly noted, so far the W9970 is the best performer for a cheap modem. Although wifi is mediocre with some packetloss at about 30 metres.
-
It would be useful if we had a list of modems and their exact chipsets.
Do you mean like this?
http://wiki.kitz.co.uk/index.php/BCM_routers
-
I have a TP-Link TD-W9970 and a Zyxel VMG1312-B10D.
TBH there was very little between the two when it came to line performance. Obviously though with the WMG1312 using the standard BCM shell, it gives it an advantage when it comes to harvesting stats. Both give slightly higher downstream than the HG612, but sacrificed some upstream.
Both are pretty good value for the money, but neither perform as well on my line as the VMG8321-B10A which has the better chipset - which incidentally is the same as in the VMG1312-B10A
----
My VMG1312-B10D was a new ex-Zen model. Its was very easy to flash using the latest f/w that I obtained from the Zyxel website.
You can easily identify the B10A -v- B10D by sight alone as they look very different. The B10D is the upright model.
B*cat is correct - Zen only supply the VMG1312-B10D.
NS is correct - the B10D has the budget BCM63381 chipset, hence why both the TD-W9970 and VMG131-B10D retail so much cheaper than those with a BCM63168 chip
-

This is from my Zyxel VMG8324 for comparison.

Try this
http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_bridge.htm
WebGui in the VMG1312 is practically the same as the VMG8324.
-
Thanks for that info Ms Kitz I also found a Zen link to put into bridge mode so I now have two sources for when it arrives.
-
here's my 8324 in bridge mode (isp being sky), but vdsl settings will be the same anyway...
-
Cheers Mr Skyeci the pics are nice and clear.
Just purchased a VMG-1312-B10A on ebay so can compare the 2 routers.
-
Ive edited the version No in your post above.
Reminder to make sure that you download the correct f/w version - ie B10D :)
-
Your edit is incorrect as I have just bought another ZyXEL which is the B10A version brand new in box on ebay from 4 miles away so I have both firmwares in my archive now. Will probably try the B10A first then leave a few days so DLM doesn't get upset.
-
Ahh..
Sorry didnt realise that you had bought another so are now awaiting both a B10A and B10D. Will delete my edit.
-
Have asked the seller to cancel and refund the B10D as am not sure about the Zen config and the B10A is unbranded and brand new in box bought in so just the B10A to come.
-
Have asked the seller to cancel and refund the B10D as am not sure about the Zen config . . .
It's just as well that I'm not a sensitive, grumpy, kitteh for, having explained how the Zen configuration has been installed and how it can be removed, there should not be anything to be unsure about! :-X
-
Hehe, just as well you aren't Mr B*kat. I have even saved the procedure to my archive in a text file so if I come across it in the future I have the procedure.
After Ms Kitz said the B10A had slightly higher sync I thought I don't need two of the same model so cancelled the Zen one. The Zen configuration was just the icing on the cake if you catch my drift. ;)

I can see your logic ;) and the big flaw therein. :D
Having given you my most ominous stare (https://elrepo.org/people/ajb/I_Am_Watching_You.png), I then thought "Whatever" and decided to share a link to the VMG1312-B10A CLI Reference Manual (http://support.aa.net.uk/images/6/6c/VMG1312-B10A_CLI_Reference_Manual.pdf).

What a generous kitteh! A tome I didn't know existed and most useful too. Many thanks from me B*cat. :)
