Title: RJ45 or RJ11 into filtered faceplate?

I've not given it much thought previously, but I have a RJ11 connection at one end of my cable going to the router, and a RJ45 connector going into the ADSL socket of the filtered faceplate.

When Sky recently asked me to plug the lead directly into the master socket, it wouldn't fit, as it is a RJ45 connection.

Are there any advantages to using either RJ11 or RJ45?

There are no advantages between one size of plastic plug and another.

Any normal DSL cable won't fit directly into the test socket, neither an RJ11 nor an RJ45 plug will fit into a BT 431A phone socket. Usually you have to use a plug-in microfilter to provide a suitable RJ11 socket.

thanks for your reply - there's no difference with the wiring then?

You're absolutely right - I had to plug a microfilter into the master socket.

No, there's no difference in the wiring. DSL operates on one pair of wires, so only the central two pins in the plug will be connected.
