I noticed that Zyxel have introduced 2 more 8924 models with suffix 'D' instead of 'A' 1.
I've been trying to figure out what the differences are. So far this is what I've noticed:
- One USB 2.0 port, not two
- No declaration of the WiFi antenna gain, unlike the 'A' series which claims 3dbi
- 220 grams lighter
- 3mm thinner
- 26mm shorter
- 8mm wider
- claims conformance with the EU Code of Conduct (on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment) v5.0 2
- no firmware published at the FTP site3
The reduction in weight suggests the device may be using a different, more highly integrated, system-on-chip and associated WiFi chipset with a smaller PCB and thinner lighter case.

There is now firmware and release notes on the Zyxel FTP server, the release notes say:
DSL modem code version: A2pv6F039x1
Which I think indicates BCM63168 or BCM63268.
