Does the problem persist if you "pause" or even "stop" the Web Shield provider ?

Sounds more like it's being blocked by a popup blocker.
Are you using anything like PG2 or any other popup blockers.

I also use Avast and don't have any problem with the site with using either FF or IE.

Hi
If I stop the web shield then its OK  .  ??? . I had no problems with MCfee but I have uninstalled that. I tried to install AVG but had an error .So thought I would try AVAST

Jeff,  Avast played me up a while ago and in the end I just gave up on it and installed  Avira from Antivir, which is free and very effective, just thought I'd mention it as an alternative.  :)

have you totally un installed the other AV's as sometimes you think you have removed them but there is still elements left behind which can conflict with your new AV

Strange.
I don't use the web shield thing on my Avast..........have that stopped and rely on the security blockers built into my browser (Opera), and I cannot see any mention of this problem on the Avast help forum.

However, you do seem to be having problems installing and working any antivirus prog. since you uninstalled Macafee............., as asked by unkyUb, did you uninstall that completely and cleanly.
Do a search for any orphan MacAfee files and junk any you find and do a search of the registry and do the same.

Before doing  that, go to http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe and dowload and then run the MacAfee removal tool (MCPR.exe)

I am (was) running a free trial of McAfee, which I was intending to remove to install Avast, so I clicked on your link, TD, and the file downloaded straight away, and of course I had to open it to have a look,  and before I knew it, McAfee was uninstalled.

Happily, I now have Avast running successfully, and freely.  I have used it before so know I will be okay with it

There you go, Jeff,..................look at fudgem's post.
If you were to run that same tool I'm sure that a lot of your problems will go away.

Thank you, fudgem, for that post and I agree with the implication therein.........that Avast is generally a very well behaved program  :)
