Title: Huawei ecolife hg612 & Sky fibre
Post by: sgtpepper on January 28, 2015, 03:11:25 PM
Hi guys i purchased one of the above from ebay already unlocked. I initially reset it by holding the reset button for 10seconds when I first had it to wipe out any personal settings.

Does this look correct?
http://i.imgur.com/SWWy0GH.jpg

I've been following this guide: http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-fibre-help/53035-how-use-openreach-modem-sky-fibre-router-guide.html

My settings look identical to his above screenshots and its a freshly reset router.

Im at the telnet stage and after logging in successfully im presented with 'ATP'. I then enter the 'sh' command mentioned and im presented with 'Busybox ..built in shell (ash)' instead a list of running processes?

Tried the following commands:
xdslcmd info --state

xdslcmd info --stats

xdslcmd info --pbParams

And they produce this result (top command is out of focus, but states its status as Idle). http://i.imgur.com/kjBk6Ix.jpg

Note: I havent yet connected up to the faceplate yet, (theres not enough space to use a PC where its placed) though i assume that wont matter since im just entering settings?

I did post this on another forum, but it looks like i've finally come to the correct place :D

that is correct, sh runs the shell. ps (while in busybox/ash) is probably the command you want for a list of running processes.

Thats is weird you can access the HG612 GUI but can't access the telnet.
this is what i would do is to re-flash the HG612 with http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=14262.0 (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=14262.0)

the way to get the running process's is CTL + ALT and DELETE and select the Task Manager and select process's this not a telnet command.

So you want to configure the modem as a modem/router? The downside is it doesn't have enough horsepower to get max speed.

No just a modem for now:D
What do you mean it doesnt have enough power?

Notsure if i should follow that guide at all since it states it doesnt have a GUI when mine does already.

What is the most upto date guide on installing sky with these, having difficulty finding any other guides? Any help appreciated

Mine didn't have a fast enough CPU to be able to deliver 80/20 on my BT connection. However that was using pppoe which is resource-hungry so you may have better results on Sky as it's not pppoe.

Are you planning to use a router behind it then, and just use it as a modem? If so, which router?

As you bought it unlocked and then did a factory reset, I'm not sure what state it's in now, so I suggest you unlock it again.

Yes just as a modem and a TP link N600 (wdr3600) as the router/dhcp etc.

Is this the correct guide to use? http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=14262.0

The very first post, by Howlingwolf, to that thread is a link to the location from which one may download the latest (current) unlocked firmware images.

The original unlocking instructions (https://huaweihg612hacking.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/hg612_unlock_instructions_v1-3.pdf), by Asbokid, are still valid as a description of the technique to use.

This may help you configure the TPLink http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-fibre-help/50485-known-working-third-party-routers-sky-fibre.html

Noticed that I had a TP link WDR3600 in the cupboard so I've flashed that with DDWRT and in the process of trying to use that.

Following this guide http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-fibre-help/49566-step-step-sky-fibre-working-dd-wrt-tp-link-tl-wr1043nd.html (http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-broadband-fibre-help/49566-step-step-sky-fibre-working-dd-wrt-tp-link-tl-wr1043nd.html)

I'm at point "3.13) Power off the TP-Link router and connect the WAN port to the BTO Modem"

"BTO modem" is the sky modem right? And connect it to the 'internet' port on the back of my TPlink? (thats what its labelled :p)

They've stated to use this command
Code: [Select]
killall udhcpc
/usr/sbin/udhcpc -i vlan2 -V "6.14.1aN_UNI|PCBAFAST2504Nv1.0" -c "XXXXX@skydsl|ff16d3d4" -p /var/run/udhcpc.pid -s /tmp/udhcpc &

But I dont have a sagem router I have an Sr102, is this correct?
Code: [Select]
killall udhcpc /usr/sbin/udhcpc -i vlan2 -c "XXXXXX|XXXXX" -p /var/run/udhcpc.pid -s /tmp/udhcpc
The WAN ip im getting is 192.168.0.18  which im sure is incorrect?

By "BTO Modem" I think it means the Openreach/Huawei one.

Im confused, why would I go through all the effort to get my TP link one to work to only go ahead and find I have to use another modem with it (hg 612)?
Also the hg612 doesnbt have my settings so why would i connect that one up? (following the guide, it mentions nothing about what a 'BTO' modem is or what its referring too).

Title: Re: Huawei ecolife hg612 & Sky fibre
Post by: Dray on February 06, 2015, 01:07:44 PM
It's because the TP Link WDR3600 doesn't have a VDSL modem built-in so it cannot connect to Sky fibre without one. You need to use a VDSL modem with it.

The hg612 would be acting as a modem only, so you don't need to configure it with anything; all configuration (username/password etc) would be done in the TP-Link.

the hg612 in its default configuration doesn't need any settings, it is bridged. all it does is translate frames from one form to another. Authentication is handled by the device behind it, in this case your TP Link.

Sky is said to be a bit unique in this respect, though?

That guide says:

Quote
You now need to start the DHCPC process with the Client Identifier, I used an example username and password in the image below. The command is dhcpc -i ptm1.101 -I ptm1.101 -c "123abcd456@skydsl|654dcba321" (with double quotes around the username and password) - you need to replace '123abcd456@skydsl|654dcba321' with your own Sky Fibre username and password. Once you have entered that your modem will be connected to the internet.

Don't gloss over this, it's probably essential (client identifier).

I've not done it myself though, so can't tell you definitively.

What exactly are you trying to do though? What's your goal? :)

See where are you getting that info? because the guide i was told to follow doesnt have that mentioned?

All im trying todo is get rid of the dam sky router. I have an hg612 and wdr3600.

so hg612 as a modem and wdr3600 for everything else, but im just about ready to give up on it.

Have you obtained your sky username and password from the sky router?
