Hi, is there a way to tell if vectoring is enabled on the hg612? Its not obvious from the various xdsl commands I have run although I can see that G.INP is enabled.

has the forum ever seen anyone with a HG612 on a vectoring enabled line and did they post the -- vectoring output?

A quick search on Google for site:forum.kitz.co.uk "xdslcmd info --vectoring" (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Aforum.kitz.co.uk+%22xdslcmd+info+--vectoring%22&oq=site%3Aforum.kitz.co.uk+%22xdslcmd+info+--vectoring%22) shows a number of posts where users are reporting '5' (VECT_UNCONFIGURED) but I don't see any that are showing configured.
To be honest I think chances are low though. Looking at the All User Stats (https://www.mydslwebstats.co.uk/HG612-MultUsersLivei.htm) on MDWS I only see four of 340 users that show vectoring enabled. Being one of those four I have to say I'm more than impressed with the benefits.

A large chunk of those users on MDWS are using monitoring software that either needs updating or is not able to report whether vectoring is in use or not.
The chances of being on a vectored line are extremely slim, @bilbokitz any reason you expect to have vectoring enabled?

It is being rolled out here and supposedly all the cabinets have been upgraded ready for faster packages to be advertised and someone on a local forum said they had noticed an increase already.
I read that the HG612 is supposed to support it and wanted to be sure,

edit: isn't the isle of man rolling out vdsl2 profile 35b with vectoring?
The Huawei HG612 doesn't support profile 35b (we use 17a).
To answer my own question they are doing both. Some are getting vplus (profile 35b) and some are getting vectoring on 17a, which is being uncapped from 80Mb to 100Mb

meh, apparently vectoring was enabled last night but I am not seeing anything.

I am assured vectoring is enabled on my isam, but two modems I have tried now are reporting vectoring status 5 unconfigured.
Can anyone who knows anything about vectoring comment on this or think of an appropriate question I could ask the isp? Can certain lines be excluded for some reason?
I have actually lost a bit of speed as G.INP has been turned off over here due to it causing drop outs on certain lines.

Huawei HG612 supports vectoring.
I answered you a few posts up. No need to buy another modem. It may be installed on the DSLAM, but currently isn't enabled.

Yes you did and thank you :) . I bought a new modem for its 35b capability which I might need later and to potentially also take over the routing functions on my network, however at present my trusty hg612 is still plugged in and still saying vectoring status 5 with no sync change since vectoring was enabled on my cab that I can see.
This is what my isp has said "The current line profile that your service is connected to, I can confirm to be a vectored profile capable of up to 100mbps"

Unfortunately you have not captured the full number of sub-carriers. Profile 17a has 4096 sub-carriers ("tones"), numbered from 0 to 4095.

Anyone had any thoughts on how else other than screen shoting the vectoring status i can tell my isp vectoring is in fact not active.
The only thing i can think is to try my modem on someones i know it is and try their modem on my line but that is not an option at present.

Well after a bit of back and forth arguing vectoring was not enabled on my line and getting hold of yet another router the one provided by the ISP rolling out vectoring, getting the stats showing yet again vectoring is not enabled, then getting the stats from the same modem on another line that is vectoring enabled I have had a result.
"I have changed the vectored profile for this circuit.
The circuit is now showing a sync of 97.7Mbps down and 10.9Mbps upload." (from 65 down)
Now I dont know much about vectoring but I thought it was all or nothing and I have doubts it was actually enabled on my ISAM at all. What do you think?

That is quite clear, the Vectoring state: 1 line tells us that vectoring is enabled for, and active on, your circuit.

Your experience has proved that ISP support will tell you things that are obviously not true. Your line did not have vectoring enabled previously despite being told it was, but you got there in the end after a bit of an argument. Persistence can often get the desired result. :)

Bilbokitz your upstream appears limited to 11 Mbps, is that correct? Attainable is almost 32.

You are right - vectoring should indeed be "all or nothing". In the sense that it only works for one line if all lines on the DSLAM are vectored.
This would mean that it shouldn't be a setting available to retail-level service providers. It ought to be a setting used only by the operator of the DSLAM.
It suggests to me that your DSLAM wasn't enabled.
The FEC and interleaving settings are having an impact on your bandwidth and latency; that "max attainable" figure would probably be around 110Mbps if you were on fastpath, and at least that if G.INP were enabled.
You mention "ISAM" - does that mean your DSLAM is made by Nokia/Lucent/Alcatel? If so, it would be strange to have another manufacturer having problems with G.INP!
Still, it's a good result for the attenuation. On a BT line, that attenuation would be somewhere around 300-350m, I reckon.

Yes I believe Alcatel cabinets are in use, bcdm chipset reported by the Huawei. Regarding G.INP, yes apparently it has been causing line drops for some customers but there had been none on my line because of it and the pings were the best I had, throughput dropped 5 - 6 ish mbps when it was turned off. I *think* lines having problems with G.INP are using Fritz boxes/old Netgears and other makes, in some cases being swapped out with Technicolor devices which now seems to be the fttc owners standard device.
Here we don't have certain sync profiles based on disconnections etc, I can unplug my modem as much as I want and it will sync at the same speed, also we can request for interleaving to be switched off, is this something I should do? The answer (or answers) to that basic question should allow certain aspects of the circuit's operational mode to be defined.

Ooh. Good point. I guess it would.
Wouldn't that mean that all lines are in a synchronised vectoring group, and that the vectoring engine is calculating all the impacts of the other lines into the single "upgraded" line? But not bothering to add those same impacts into the N lines that haven't upgraded?
Would you be paying the penalty of vectoring (such as long sync times), without gaining much?

No, it just means when vectoring is enabled that you would still see the benefit if other lines were "vectoring friendly" and didn't fully support vectoring.
You had a modem that supported vectoring, with it enabled at your end. In my opinion the DSLAM was simply not enabled. The ISP had incorrectly advised you.

Yes, this was one possibility, with vectoring enabled on the DSLAM, but with some lines operating in vectoring friendly mode.

If a line is synced at 80 and the isp is offering 80 down, could openreach still limit bandwidth to 40 mbps?

OpenReach limit their products by sync rate only as far as I'm aware.
OpenReach only control part of the connection though. The ISP/backhaul provider could be limiting a line. This can be deliberately or something somewhere could be configured incorrectly.

Openreach shapes traffic for congestion - if the link between the cabinet and the OLT at the fibre head-end is overloaded.
The priority rate is, IIRC, lower than 40Mbps. But, because this depends on other lines being active, I doubt you'd see any consistent speed value.
