I am attempting to use openDNS on a small network.
But the problem I am having now Is that after I flush the DNS and enter openDNS the ISP DNSes apper again when the router is restarted.
So, does anyone know how to disable the ISP DNSes so they won’t come back when I reboot the router?

You didn't mention what router you use, but this is usually a configurable option in the router setup. On my DG834GT (for example) it's part of the basic ADSL setup, where you can choose between 'Get DNS from ISP' and 'Use the following DNS addresses:'.

Is your 585v6 a branded one? i.e. one that has been supplied from an ISP - if it is you may have problems.
To set dns servers with the client user interface (cli) follow this guide (http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/speedtouch585.htm) to telnet to the router and enter the following commands:
dns server route flush
dns server route add dns=208.67.220.222 metric=1 intf=Internet
dns server route add dns=208.67.220.220 metric=2 intf=Internet
dns server route list [this command will list the servers to check that they are set correctly]
saveall

I have done this and open DNS works, except when I restart the router the ISP DNSes return and web filtering fails because the ISP DNSes resolve the DNS and I can access blocked web pages.
And yes, it’s a “modded” firmware.
Is there a new firmware anywhere that I can flash over the ISP v6.2.29.2 firmware I have now?
But I have never been able to flash a Speedtouch and keep the settings, but that is a must as usually I don’t have the ISP passwords.
Can anyone help with that there?
But the question is, when I have a generic firmware from Speedtouch. How do I disable ISP DNSes?

Which ISP firmware is on the 585v6?
I'm not sure that it will be possible to flash with standard firmware without building a jtag cable, opening up the router and reflashing it that way. Unless you are particularly interested and are reasonably competent with a soldering iron you'd be just as well to pick up a cheap 585v6 from ebay (unbranded vanilla unit).
With standard firmware the way to disable the ISP DNS settings and use your own can be achieved using the CLI method as detailed previously. The saveall command ensures that the settings are maintained following a power cycle.

I am using a Icelandic firmware, sure you dont know it.
But, the firmware can be flashed. I have done it.
Just never found a newer firmware then the one they supplay.

Well if you an to try and flash it with generic firmware here's a resource (http://anonym.to/?http://speedtouchforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=1089) (scroll down to the 585v6 section and look for the international versions).
Do a hard reset of the 585v6 after you flash it.

Well, the flash program cannot find the router.
I deleted the 192.168.1.x network, perhaps that makes the router un-flashable.
Or I may have accidentally disabled the update service in the router?
Cant the flash program be manually told where the router is (10.1.1.254)?

As far as I am aware you should be able to access the speedtouch at it's default address of 10.0.0.138
When you upgrade the firmware you should do it via a wired connection and set your PC to have a static IP with the following settings:
IP: 10.0.0.1
Subnet: 255.0.0.0
Default Gateway: 10.0.0.138

I am able to access it.
But the firmware update utill cannot find it.

Which version of the firmware update utility are you using?

I tried both the one from my ISP and the new one provided one the firmware page mentioned to have the new firmware in the post above, R4421.

So your ISP supplied firmware update utility is unable recognise the router?

No the problem is that the program cannot find the rotuer.
Hens I was wondering if I could set a manual IP address forthe program?

Try to re-instate the router ip of 192.168.1.254 and go from there. The easiest way to do that would be to perform a factory reset.
Make sure that you have all your isp login details before you do a factory reset.
