Title: Something is wrong with my line
Post by: amstel on January 10, 2017, 06:23:10 PM
Hi guys,

I do apologise in advance but English is not my first language.
I changed BT Hub 5 to HG612 on 30th of November 2016 due to the famous PPP LCP Send Termination Request.

Today I have noticed that my SNR is jumping up and down and I see a lot of disconnections.
Please see amstel's stats on https://www.mydslwebstats.co.uk
Can you please advise ?

Thank you
Chris

Looks like something happened to your line around 14:30 this afternoon.

Did you do something?

Hi Dray,

Thank you for your reply.
As far as I know me or other users did not touch anything today.
I provide a remote support to this site and unfortunately I cannot do a quiet line test today.
Shall I report a fault to BT ?

I really need your assistance.
I connected the modem HG 612 directly to the test socket.
Internet is still slow and patchy.
BT told me on the chat yesterday that they do not see any problem on the line but thay can send an engineer (risk of a hefty fee).
Please see attached SNRM:

Are you tweaking your SNRM target down to 3 dB? If so, I strongly recommend that you restore the normal 6 dB target, which should make your connection more stable.

Thanks Roseway for your reply but I am not tweaking my SNRM on HG612 (B030SP08).

Everything was fine for the last few weeks.
I am not good with reading my stats but I have a feeling that there could be a fault on my line.
Am I right?

Probably, yes. Your SNRM graph suggests an intermittent HR (high resistance) joint. If you hear crackling or hissing on a corded telephone that would be a good indicator of this kind of fault, and you could report it to BT as a voice fault. But as it seems to be intermittent, this can get more complicated to resolve.

I'm sorry for a delay with the reply.
A week ago I had a chat with BT. After the conversation my modem disconnected and I think he reset a port on DSLAM.
Since the reset, SNRM is stable but I do not think that they has resolved the problem permanently.

Kondrado: please see attached logs:

A week ago I had a chat with BT. After the conversation my modem disconnected and I think he reset a port on DSLAM.

No he did a CU line test (copper line test) and that took your modem off line while it did the test.

You do a QLT by dialing 17070 option 2  there is not cost.

I have a HR joint on my line and you have to keep on to BT on 0800 800 151 that you can hear noise on your phone.
