There may be a few possibilities for this:

1. This was a re-install on top of your previous version and the S/N was picked up from the old registry.
2. Was this XP Home or XP Pro.
3. Was this a legitimate copy of XP.
4. Withing the next 30 days you will be asked to insert the S/N and register the product.

Well today i tried to install XP on my system

Did you format the drive as part of the installation process ?

Either way, if it's working okay, I wouldn't worry about it.

Formatted, no I had to replace the old one as it didn't meet my requirments as at the tme i built the PC i thought 80gb would be fine.

J.Man,
I hate to be picky BUT,

On 16th July you posted that:
today I tried to install XP on my system

Then in  reply to Old Fogey’s post:
Within the next 30 days you will be asked to insert the S/N and register the product.

You replied:
It was 3 months ago and nothing what so ever

Please stick to actual FACTS if asking for help, that way you stand a better chance of getting help.

Not to mention.

Dave,
My intention was to say the same, but you got there first.

J.Man
I'm sorry but your question/s now for me hold no validity, you may also recall a question with regards to your broadband speeds and ISPs! which contracted itself.

Sorry my bad  :(  Didn't see that one.
Of which was also your reply on that occasion also.
