Title: Slow forum ?
Post by: tuftedduck on August 01, 2010, 10:38:41 AM
Has anyone else found the forum to be slow and "sticky" over the last two or three days.

Seems to be coming adrift when trying to load googledoubleclick ?

Me too  .... I use FF and it's been 'sticking' on a few pages  ...   I wasn't sure if it was me or not ... with the thundery weather   ::)     but other sites are running normal.

We had a similar discussion in January, and it was thought that the occasional slow-down was caused by slow loading of external links such as google ads. I suspect that the same applies now.

Ok for me (at present). This doesn't happen all the time just occasionally and as Roseway has said we had a similar problem a few months back which was related to Google ads

Seems ok here and I cant see any probs with the server..  it is supposed to be one of the fastest in the UK.

>>  googledoubleclick

Obviously I have no control over the server state of outside sources and if any images or links that are hosted on external servers.  If an image that is hosted elsewhere is on a server that is experiencing problems, then unfortunately it will affect the loading of these pages. :(

Thanks Kitz  ... I did wonder about images  ... I use Village Photos for some of mine and  VP does  tend to be  slow sometimes   ...  I think I shall do what I should have done a while  ago and move the lot to photo-bucket .... :)  Kate

@ scottiesmum..........your images were not the problem, so don't expend any effort fiddling with them.

All down to Google in it's varying forms.

All seems sweetness and light again today.. :)

Well I put a block on the banner image, not the Kitz part, but the one in the middle and the page loads like lightening.
That's using Opera.

Spasmodically slow loading for me at present.

I know Google ads are blamed for this, but on other sites that use Google ads there doesn't seem to be a problem.  :shrug2:

Not just Google ads that slow things down spasmodically.
I visit some other forums that carry ads from other targeting ad companies and they can slow the job down.
Yahoo are such a site that use ads from external sources and use targeted ads. I know from me making a purchase from a company on the web a day or two later an ad will appear for this same company. If I use Firefox with an ad blocking addon then the pages will load with no delay at all.
So I wouldn't blame Google ads it's the external sources that Google get their ads from that is the problem.

It does still seem to happen from time to time, but I can't offer any explanation apart from the Google ads. The server which hosts the site is a very high-powered one.

Seems ok now,it does seem to be the Google-ads that make things slow to load.

The site is very slow at present, and not Google ad related. In fact it has been down for a short period a few minutes ago

It's not just this site. I have had a few sites slow to load which are normally like flipping the pages of a book.

I'm noticing slow loading on various sites even ones that don't use Google ads.

There must be a general problem....probably a JCB's hacked into a key fibre conduit again.....it usually happens on a Friday.

I too experienced very slow downloads of the Kitz site only around 9:30 a.m. using my Virgin service but 10 pings to www.kitz.co.uk averaged about 18 ms which seems remarkably good.

No known BT outages

AAISP reported two line drop incidents in the early hours this morning

It could be routing problems seeing as a few sites were affected. A lot of sites do use Google and Yahoo advertising plus others. It only takes one to slow the rest down. It could also DNS problems I suppose.

I will just add that is was only Kitz that was affected in my case, all other sites I use were ok.  :)

I wasnt about yesterday, but I did hear from a friend at the time that 'parts of the internet had gone into meltdown'.   I was dubious about her comment, but about a couple of hours later I heard from another source that slowness was being experienced via certain routing (peering?).
I believe that BT said that telephony demand trebled from normal during this period too.

Im afraid I cant confirm or deny because I didnt experience this first hand.
