Excel problem ... With Windows XP Home.
I have 3 PCs with Office 2000 loaded on all. :police:
Two are working okay, whilst the other is giving me problems.
PC 1&2. If I type the number 1 2 or 3 etc, it shows correctly in the cell as 1 2 or 3 or whatever I type.
PC 3. If I type the number 1 2 or 3 etc, it shows in the cell as 0.01 0.02 or 0.03 which is not what I typed and therefore does not compute in the formula (simple column addition).
The only way to get it to add-up correctly is to add a decimal point after each number is typed, such as 1. 2. 3. etc
No matter how the cells are formatted, whether as "Number, Currency" or even general the problem still occurs.
And it's a pain having to do this all the time.
Any suggestions how to correct this problem please.

Well, I'm baffled OF  I've had a good rummage and can't see any other way of changing the number format other that Format/Cells. Even the Style option just takes you back to the Cells box.
I'll think on it a while.
Edit - have you tried clearing the cells of formatting (rather than just trying to change it):

Without looking too deep its possibly a custom format thats been applied to a doc and then saved to the excel template by mistake.
Something like #,###.#0
You could try recreating a new template
- or alternatively it may be easier to take a copy of the templates from one of the other machines and putting that on the machine thats causing the problem.
Theres some info here how to change the default template

hi OF
u could try START > RUN then type the path to the office folder, then excel.exe /regserver
this'll reset the registry for excel. then copy sheet.xlt from a working machine to the effected machine.

Thanks people (everyone that is) especially JM
The solution has now been found and so simple, after racking my grey matter and nearly getting to the reinstall stage, not that I thought that would cure the problem (don't know why, just did).
Try
Tools > options > Edit Tab > Fixed Decimal is unticked
VBA Noob
Thanks also to VBA Noob for the solution, should he/she ever wonder in here.

Just another thanks whilst I'm here. I tried for ages the other day to try and find "AVG free version", eventually I gave up.
Then decided to look on your main site and found the link to it straight-away, so thanks again.

Re AOL - The only reason I ask is that I was looking the other day at the number of users that had signed up to these forums but not actually activated their accounts and there appeared to be a large proportion of aol users.
I'm aware that aol can often be ardent with their spam filtering and wondered if perhaps aol was being a bit over-zealous.
